Don was born on Dec. 29, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Charlie and Christine Dykstra. He was preceded in death by his brother, Len.

He is survived by his sister, Audrey Kinezan of Indiana. Don was previously married to Dorothy. His life was celebrated for the past 22 years with Michaelene. He served as a Chicago Police Officer for 31 years and a member of the Emerald Society, the German-American Police Association and the Illinois Police Association, for which he served a two-year term as President (1995-1997).
