of A da 50T Patrick E. Kosowski Catholic Church, 191 Linden Patrick E. Kosowski, 66, a self- Winnetka. employed carpenter and Army veteran of the Korean War, died Wednesday in Christ Hospital and Medical Center, Oak Lawn. Mr.

Kosowski, a native of Chicago, was a longtime resident of Burbank. He was president of the O.L. Sertoma Club, a service organization for the handicapped, from 1967 to 1968; governor of the Central Illinois district of the club in 1969; and international director of the Illinois Wisconsin region of Sertoma International from 1970 to 1972. Survivors include his wife, Eleanore; a daughter, Sandra Jo Ksycki; two sons, Steven and Lawrence; two stepdaughters, Deborah Novack and Ruth Henrichs; a stepson, Michael Oziminski; his mother, Stella Misuraca; and six grandchildren. Mass will be said at 10 a.m.

Monday in St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 8808 S. Ridgeland Oak Lawn. John Darmstadt John Darmstadt, 85, a longtime Hillside produce farmer, died at his home Thursday in a fall. The road to his farm, which intersects Butterfield Road, was named Darmstadt Road after his family, which started farming the land in 1854.

Originally 77 acres, it was reduced to three acres over the years, primarily because of construction of the Eisenhower Expressway and the Tri-State Tollway. Mr. Darmstadt worked as an inspector at Jefferson Electric for many years, retiring in 1975. He farmed and maintained a vegetable stand on Darmstadt Road until his death. Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Lewis and Lois Berggren; a sister; and two grandsons.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Hennessy-Bruno Funeral Home, 5903 Burr Oak Berkeley. Dorothy E. "Jimmie" Krez Dorothy E. "Jimmie" Krez, 77, an independent investment manager, died Thursday in Whitehall North Care Center in Deerfield.

Born in Chicago, Ms. Krez lived in Barrington from 1941 to 1970 before moving to Ft. Lauderdale. She is survived by a sister. Mass will be said at 11:30 a.m.

Monday in Sts. Faith, Hope and Charity Carrie Hovel, 13, a student and cheerleader at Nathan Hale Elementary School on Chicago's Southwest Side, died Thursday outside the school, 6140 S. Melvina Ave. A resident of Chicago's Clearing neighborhood, she was the victim of a shooting. Survivors include her parents, Donna Holliger and Thomas Hovel; and a grandfather, Donald Kruse.

Mass will be said at 10:45 a.m. Monday at St. Symphorosa Church, 6135 S. Austin Ave. Helena Martin Helena Martin, 13, a student at Chicago's Nathan Hale Elementary School, died Thursday outside the school, 6140 S.

Melvina Ave. She was the victim of a shooting. She lived in Chicago's Clearing neighborhood and was a member of the Hale Park gymnastics team and Hale School volleyball team. Survivors include her parents, Sallyann Martin and Daniel Olinger two brothers, Matthew and Dana; a sister, Nico; and a grandmother, JoAnne Lisek. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m.

Griffin, a South Side funeral home director for more than six decades, died Thursday in Chicago. He was 83. Mr. Griffin was the director of the Griffin Funeral Home, 3232 S. Martin Luther King Drive, which is considered a landmark building in 'the Douglas community.

Mr. Griffin presided over the funerals of several famous Chicagoans, including Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad and track star Jesse Owens. He also was the first American funeral director to conduct a state funeral in a foreign country. An expert on the Civil War, Mr. Griffin was especially interested in the experience of the black Confederate soldiers, and in 1990 designed the Heritage Memorial Wall on the site of the Civil War Camp Douglas.

Survivors include his wife, Alyce Carter Griffin; two daughters, Ethel Dawn Griffin-O'Neal and Pearl Louise Griffin-Martin; a sister; and a granddaughter. Services will held be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mr. Griffin's funeral home. Helen M.

Thompson Helen M. Thompson, 75, of Orland Park, died Friday in Palos Hills. She was an admitting clerk at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park for 20 years. Survivors include her husband, Joseph; a daughter, Peggy Breault; three sons, Thomas, Brian and Joseph; a brother; a sister; and seven grandchildren. Services will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Rowell 78, owner of the Woodstock-based Guardian Electric Manufacturing died Friday i in Evanston Hospital. Mr. Rowell lived in Lincolnwood for 32 years before moving to Glenview 11 years ago. In 1937 his father founded the Woodstockbased manufacturing company, which produces relays. Mr.

Rowell began his career at Guardian Electric as a stock boy and moved his way up the ranks, to eventually co-own the company. Survivors include his wife, Vera; four sons, Frank, William, Thomas and James; a daughter, Joan; a brother; and nine grandchildren. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1123 Church Glenview. William Landau William Landau, 68, former director of the clinical microbiology laboratories at Rush Presbyterian-St.

Luke's Medical Center, died Friday in Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie. Mr. Landau held a doctorate in public health from the University of Pennsylvania and was a clinical professor at Rush Medical College and a former chairman of the medical school's admissions committee. After his recent retirement, Mr. Landau taught as a volunteer in an adult literacy program at Oakton Community College.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia; a son, Mark; a daughter, Pamela; a brother; and three grandchildren.
