Robert Brandt, 74; also was funeral director VI yf "-sr Robert Brandt, 74, a funeral director in Chicago for 56 years, served from 1963 to 1971 as alderman of the 33rd Ward. A resident of the Logan Square neighborhood, he died Sunday at home. "As an alderman, he was especially interested in the safety of children," said his wife, Eugenie. "He was concerned about street crossings, alley lights and other factors that could affect their security.

He was an excellent speaker and had a beautiful vocabulary, but when he spoke in the council, it was always with great thoughtfulness and prepara tion. He was a reflective person." Aid. Brandt succeeded his uncle, Aid. John B. Brandt, in the council.

He lost his seat because of redistricting. Over the years, he had funeral homes under his name in the West Town neighborhood and later at 3421 W. Fullerton Ave. Survivors besides his wife include a son, Michael; five grandchildren; two brothers; and a sister. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m.
