May 23, 1997 Section 2 3 DuPage County Briefing NAPERVILLE City cracks whip to fix faulty design 9 PS GLEN ELLYN Man is accused of starting fire that burned his mother's home A 36-year-old Milton Township man was in DuPage County Jail Thursday, charged with burning his mother's home Wednes- day, a DuPage County police officer said. Christopher Gralake of 21 770 Dorchester Ct was charged with arson by sheriffs police and with aggravated assault by the Glen Ellyn Police Department for allegedly trying to punch a' police officer. He is being held on $500,000 bond. Gralake lives at the home owned by his mother, said Kathleen Kolvitz, the sheriffs office public information officer.

Structural damage is estimated at $250,000, said Glen Ellyn-Fire Department Chief Stuart Stone. Gralake had been free on bond Wednesday after he was arrested Tuesday night by the Glen Ellyn Police Department for alleged battery. In the incident that resulted in that arrest, Gralake allegedly went to a neighbor's house and threw a rock at the porch and tried to strike the man with a hose and tried to punch him. His wife, Paula Benda. 50, was charged with one count of domestic battery, police said.
