Arrangements by The Oaks Funeral Home, 630-250-8588 New York Times News Service Sanford Meisner, one of the most influential American acting teachers of this century and for decades the director of the celebrated Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater in New York City, died on Sunday at his home in Sherman Oaks, Calif. He was 91. Mr.

Meisner, an unassuming but charismatic man who began his career as an actor and occasionally undertook directing, was one of a handful of master drama instructors. He exhorted several generations of students to be truthful, spontaneous, and emotionally credible and to act with other actors, not against them. His students included Gregory Peck, Joanne Woodward, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall and Grace Kelly. He also taught such directors as Sidney Lumet, Sydney Pollack, and Vivian Matalon, and the playwright David Mamet. Like the other expert teachers of his era Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, and Robert Lewis Mr.

Meisner was an original member of the Group Theater of the 1930s, an ensemble of idealistic and passionate people whose principles and techniques are still an influential force in American drama. The Depression-era ensemble, which was formed in emulation of the Moscow Art Theater and dedicated to Konstantin Stanislavsky's George Fischer, By Kenan Heise Tribune Staff Writer George A. Fischer, 81, chairman of Goodheart-Willcox Publisher in Tinley Park, helped lead the vocational textbook publisher as it expanded more into more subject fields and moved into larger facilities and offices. A resident of Palos Heights, he died Saturday in Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park. Goodheart-Willcox, which he joined in 1955, was formerly based in South Holland.

It publishes high school and community college textbooks in such vocational subjects as the building and metal trades, electronics, automobile repair, refrigeration and computer-aided drafting. It also publishes textbooks in family and consumer sciences.
