William V. Whitehorn William V. Whitehorn, 81, a researcher and doctor who taught physiology at the University of Illinois Medical School from 1947 to 1970, died Feb. 20 at his home in Silver Spring, Md. A native of Detroit, Dr.

Whitehorn attended Wayne State University and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1940, though he never went into private practice. He- became a researcher at Ohio State University during World War II, studying the effects of high altitude and pressure on pilots. He taught physiology at the University of Ohio until 1947, when he and his family moved to Villa Park and he joined the faculty at University of Illinois at Chicago. In 1962 and 1963, Dr. Whitehorn and his wife, Sarah, lived in northern Thailand, where he established a medical school on behalf of UIC and the United States government.

The couple returned to Villa Park until 1970, when Dr. Whitehorn became vice president of medical affairs at the University of Delaware. In 1975, he went to work for the Food and Drug Administration in Washington, keeping physicians and medical colleges nationwide apprised of new products and programs at the FDA. When he semi-retired in 1980, Dr. Whitehorn continued to teach part time at Uniformed Services Medical College in Bethesda, until 1988.

"He had very strong principles His whole life, he believed in honesty, respect and service to the community and to society in general," said his wife of 58 years. Dr. Whitehorn is also survived by two sons, David and Gene; a brother, and a granddaughter. There were no formal services. John Rannie Allen John Rannie Allen, 70, a longtime Chicago-area resident who was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained on a Navy vessel during World War II, died Wednesday in North Chicago Veterans Administration hospital of Alzheimer's disease.

After enter-ing the service in 1943, Mr. Allen was stationed aboard the USS Eversole, which sank in Pacific waters in 1944 following two torpedo strikes. He escaped the ves- sel and became an active member of the Destroyer Escort Survivors Association. "He was just a kid. I'm very proud of him.

He wasn't in that long but a lot happened to him," his sister, Gertrude Esser, said. Mr. Allen later worked as a carpenter and craftsman for ciated Building Contractors in Evanston. Other survivors include his wife, Rose; two sons, Marcus and Mathias; and two daughters, Yvonne and Mildred Ann. Following a private memorial service, Allen will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

John Knox John Knox, 89, a longtime attorney for Allstate Insurance died Thursday in Hinsdale Hospital. He was bprn in Des Moines and attended the University of Chicago. He worked as a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice James McReynolds for two -years before returning to Chicago to work for Allstate He retired in 1973. Mr; Knox was a member of -the Society of Mayflower Descen- dants, the Society of Colonial Wars and the Sons of the Ameri- can Revolution.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Grace "'Episcopal Church, 523 Lake Dak Park. G. Koreiva cY, Anthony G. Koreiva, 72, a Rose-land native who spent his career teaching and counseling youths in Coos Bay, died there Feb.

14 of brain cancer. The son of Lithu anian immigrants, Mr. Koreiva was a star running back on the Fenger High School football team, which won the 1943 Chicago City League championship at Soldier Field. "They gave him the ball and he ran like hell. The papers called him 'the Little Blond said his daughter, Mary Jo.

Serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II, Mr. Koreiva was wounded in the Battle of Luzon and was awarded a Bronze Star for taking out an enemy machine gun nest. Upon his return, he studied education at the University of Portland. From there, he went to Coos Bay, where he taught at the high school for 15 years before becoming a guidance counselor and retiring in 1982.

He stayed involved in sports, coaching football, basketball and track. Other survivors include his wife, Bonnie; three sons, Paul, Tuch and Steve; two other daughters, Kath-ryn Robinson and Jean Kubaryk; and several grandchildren. Services were in Oregon. Chester Prusinski Chester Prusinski, 66, owner of Chefs Melody Lounge, 7400 S. Archer Justice, for 32 years, died Thursday at his home in Justice.

Before opening Chefs in 1965, Mr. Prusinski had operated other bars. He left the business for a few years to work for a vending machine company and then returned. Mr. Prusinski got involved with the Quilici Youth Organization of Chicago.

As a member of the charitable organization, he helped raise money for poor children, and he took them to baseball games. He later became its president. He is survived by his wife, Clara Prusinski; a son, Richard; a daughter, Linda Judycki; three sisters; a brother; and three grandchildren. Services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday in Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W.
