Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997 at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on Dec. 2, 1907, the daughter of Hon. E.L.

and Gail Myers McHaney. She attended Little Rock High School and studied ballet at the Sorbonne. Paris, France Virginia married E. "Mert" Thayer in New York, New York in 1934. He was a newspaper reporter and New York World's Fair manacer, moving in 1941 to Chicago where he was general manager of the International Amphitheatre and member of the Chicago Press Club.

A former resident of Chicago, IL for 40 years, she resided with her older son's family for nine years in Southern A homemaker, she was a Southern Baptist and a two term President of the Illinois Garden Club, and a member of the D.A.R. Survivors include two sons. E. Thayer Jr. of Sesser, IL and Thayer of Chicago, IL; one sister, Betty Ann Bennett of Lonoke, Arkansas; one brother.

RIEMER George Riemer 91, contractorbanker, 40 year resident of Park Ridge, passed away Jan 16. 1998, at home, the oldest of eight children, he and his mother journeyed by boat from Europe to the USA, his father stayed behind until he could save enough money for the journey to join them. They settled in Jefferson Park and he went into the concrete business with his father in the 1930 until the Depression hit. They had $100,000 in the bank, accounts receivable $100,000 and owed $100,000.

They paid their St 00. 000 debt, which wiped out their cash and they only collected a small amount of the accounts receivable. Because of his making payments, It gave his credibility AAA rating. After the Depression, he and his brother Dave formed Riemer Brothers, Inc. in 1936.

With limited education and good credit and very little money, they were able to acquire one bulldozer. That was the beginning of one of the largest, most profitable excavating and trucking companies in this part of the country. The company ceased operations in 1993, by choice. Many years ago. he and a handful of other Park Ridge residents founded the Bank of Park Ridge, which subsequently changed to the First National Bank of Park Ridge, which name was subsequently changed to O'Hare International Bank, until Northern Trust Bank of Chicago purchased it and named it Northern Trust BankO Hare.

He was Chairman of all of the above until his retirement. He was a member of Rolling Green Country Club. The Governor of Kentucky made him an honorary Kentucky Colonel. He is survived by his sons George Jr. and Conrad; one brother, three sisters; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his faithful housekeeper and friend Staley.
