When chief engineer Tom Kelly (Matt Craven), from whose viewpoint this is told, says, "Let's go with an octagonal descent stage," it is, believe it or not, an intriguing moment. I don't know what fasteners the engineers used on the vehicle, but this is a riveting hour, taking us inside some of the outside-tne-box thinking that had to occur. It also takes us out into space with the vehicle as the astronauts test it for the first time. A tip of the hat to executive producer Hanks for having the vision and being willing to wield the clout to make this "mini" series, and to HBO for coming up with the money to do it.
