Chicago Tribune, Sunday, January 3, 1999 Section 4 7 OBITUARIES Johnny Moore of The Drifters Annetta Evans Robinson, 71, longtime NU aide western's associate director Alumni Relations. "She just difl her job well." Mrs. Robinson also helped establish support groups for women's sports, the University Library and the Mary and Leigh Block Gallery. She and her husband, Paul; Andrew, divorced in 1961 but remarried in 1976. He died in 1995.

Mrs. Robinson was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and a former trustee with the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston. She later became a member of the Kenilworth Union Church. Survivors include three daughters, Katherine, Elizabeth and Margaret; a brother, James Evans; and two grandchildren. A service will be held at 4 p.m.

Monday at the Kenilworth Union Church, 211 Kenilworth cer for nearly a year. She was a lifelong resident of Evanston. Elizabeth Robinson called her mother "the original modern mom" who was living to the fullest until 12 hours before she died. In the days before her death, Mrs. Robinson attended parties and movies.

"She was just the strongest, most independent woman," Elizabeth Robinson said. "When we were growing up in Evanston, not a lot of our peers had working moms. She always said to us, 'You must always be able to support Mrs. Robinson earned a bachelor's degree from Northwestern's College of Arts and Sciences in 1949 and started work there in 1964. She was instrumental in forming the Northwestern Women's Board and the Alumnae Continuing Education Program. The latter offers adult education lectures from some of Northwestern's most distinguished faculty members. In 1958, after growing tension between manager George Tread-well and the band, TreadweU fired them all and hired other singers to be The Drifters. In 1961, after a stint of military service, Mr. Moore was invited to rejoin The Drifters. At the time, Rudy Lewis was lead singer, and Mr. Moore sang with him on "Sweets for the Sweet," "Up on The Roof and "On Broadway." When Lewis died in 1964, Mr.

Moore became lead singer, making "Under the Boardwalk" the group's last Top 10 hit. When their American success declined in the 1970s, Mr. Moore took The Drifters to Britain, where they found new popularity. Among their hits from 1973 to 1976 were "Kissing in the Back HYCNER See Angeline L. Slenk.
