Mass 10 a.m Interment Ridgewood Cemetery. 773-774-4100 LOS ANGELES -Lillian Disney, the widow of legendary animator Walt Disney and the person who named Mickey Mouse, has died at the age of 98, Walt Disney Co. said Wednesday.

"Mrs. Disney was a full-time partner to Walt, and we are all grateful for her contributions in the creation of Mickey Mouse and the Disney company and for the example she set for family life and community service," Michael Eisner, head of Walt Disney said in a statement. The company said Mrs. Disney died Tuesday in her West Los Angeles home. It cited family members as saying she died in her sleep after suffering a stroke Monday, exactly 31 years after her husband died on Dec.

15, 1966. "On behalf of all the cast members of the Walt Disney Company, I wish to extend condolences 1 to the family of Lillian Disney, widow of Walt Disney, co-founder of the company along with his older brother Roy," Eisner said. "Lillian and Walt Disney and Edna and Roy Disney were pioneers in turning a creative vision through hard work and sacrifice into an American institution," he said. "For that, the world is grateful." Her biggest contribution to the success of Disney may have been her suggestion for the name of the cartoon character that came to personify the entertainment giant. On a train ride with his wife from New York City to Los Angeles after a business setback, Disney told her he had come up with a new character -Mortimer Mouse.

"Not Mortimer; it's too formal," she said. "How about Mickey?" The name stuck. The former Lillian Bounds grew up on a Nez Perce Indian reservation in Lapwai, Idaho, where her father worked as a federal marshal and blacksmith. She came to Los Angeles in 1923 Lillian Disney to join an older sister, and a friend told her about a job open; ing at the fledgling Walt Disney studio. She worked for Disney as a secretary, married him in 1925 and had two children, Diane and Sharon.

"I think my dad fell in love with her almost immediately," Diane: Disney Miller said in a recent Lost Angeles Times interview. For 41 years, Lillian Disney stayed in the background, raising the couple's children while her husband ventured into full-length animation, live-action movies and amusement parks. Three years after Disney died. his widow married John Truyens. She was widowed again in 1981.

In 1987, she gave $50 million toward the Disney Concert Hall, which is yet to be built in downtown Los Angeles. It was one of many philanthropic and charitable acts during her later years. At the time of the donation, said, "I have always had a deep love and admiration for my hus-1 band, and I wanted to find a way' to honor him as well as give something to Los Angeles that would have lasting 18 Nicolette Larson, actress and country-pop singer REUTERS LOS ANGELES singer Nicolette Larson, best known for her hit version of Neil Young's "Lotta Love" in the 1970s, has died at age 45, her publicist said Wednesday.
