Prospect Skating Club in the early 1970s. "He was the coordinator of the Mt. Peter Troost Monument-- By Walter Gottesman Special to the Tribune Robert Richard Vehe, 75, a 40-year resident of Mt. Prospect, was a retired manager of contract administration and vice president of sales for Kleinschmidt Deerfield, a computer service company. Mr. Vehe, who was born in Evanston, died July 9 in Wisconsin.

Mr. Vehe was a nationally recognized volunteer for speed skating and cycling organizations. Mr. Vehe attended Armstrong School in Rogers Park and graduated from New Trier High School in 1940. He got a bachelor's degree in history in the 1940s from Duke University, where he was a member of the basketball team.

In 1957 he earned a certificate in industrial management from the Industrial Management Institute at Lake Forest College. Mr. Vehe served on a Navy troop ship in the Pacific during World War II. After the war he earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Northwestern University in 1950. He retired in 1971, after 21 years with Kleinschmidt where he had been vice president of sales since 1957.

After retirement from Kleinschmidt he worked as a Mr. Vehe compiled, and for the last 25 years published handbooks for both speed-skating and cycling competitions. He was also editor for the past 10 years of Racing vi Blade, the magazine of the Ama- teur Speedskating Union. "He did it all on his own, with-v very little assistance," said Mark- land. "He was a fighter for the sport of speed skating.

"Mr. Vehe's contributions to the sports of speed skating and cycling have been equalled by no one," said William Markland, a friend and chairman of the short track speed-skating committee of the International Skating Union. Hallett, 82, of Arlington Heights, a longtime volunteer, died Tuesday in Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Born in Harvard, Mrs. Hallett was a dental assistant before she married and moved to Chicago, where she raised her family.

Mrs. Hallett was a homemaker who also volunteered her time in activities that she could share with her children. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie troop leader in Chicago and served as president of the Parent Teachers Association for both McPherson Grammar School and Amundsen High School in Chicago. "She did a lot of things, mostly for her kids and her grandchildren," recalled her daughter, Ruthann Normann. In 1960 Mrs.

Hallett moved to Arlington Heights, where she was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at the First Presbyterian Church. She also was a league bowler at -Timber Lanes in Chicago and Beverly Lanes in Arlington, Heights. She bowled more than 25; with both leagues. "She loved to be with people and her favorite thing was talking to people," her daughter added. Other survivors include a son, James; two sisters, Bette Shoe-'-, maker and Donna Erb; and five grandchildren.

Louise Ethel Barkdoll Louise Ethel BarkdolL 87, a resident of Naperville since 1940 and formerly of River Grove, died Tuesday in Edward Hospital in Naperville. Born in Chicago, Mrs. Barkdoll graduated from John Marshall High School and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville since 1942.

Survivors include two sons, Donald W. and Roy seven daughters, Nancy Alonzo, Lois Stanley, Bette, Mary Lou Pratte, Sharron Brunk, Sandra Godfrey and Darlene Herman; a brother, James Enger; two sisters, Marion Littlewood and Laverne Scherdin; 18 grandchildren; and 13 greatgrandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Grace United Methodist Church, 300 E. Gartner Naperville.

Heights died Monday in Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights. Born in Chicago, Mrs. Rolfs owned and operated Elmer's White Rock grocery in Norridge with her husband, Elmer, for 30 years. She was a former resident of Norridge and Chicago. In 1965, Mrs.

Rolfs retired to Sarasota, Fla. She moved to Arlington Heights in 1969 after the death of her husband. "She had a wonderful personality," recalled one of her daughters, Barbara Epifano. "She enjoyed life and her family, and she had a great sense of humor." Other survivors include three more daughters, Carol Price, June Wilczewski and Joan Ausland; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Services will be at 11 a.m.

Mary's Hospital Eleanore M. Knight Eleanore M. Knight, 81, of Palatine and formerly of Rolling Meadows died Tuesday in her home. Mrs. Knight, who was born in North Dakota, was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rolling Meadows.

"She just absolutely loved traditional worship," said Rev. Robert Giese, pastor at Trinity Lutheran. Giese said Mrs. Knight participated in the discussions in 1954 that led to the founding of the church the next year. Survivors include two daughters, Arlene Crittenden and Peggy Ann Cuttler; a son, Martin; two sisters, Helen Christiansen and Irene Hindermith; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Arlington Heights. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Trinity Lutheran Church, 3201 Meadow Drive, Rolling Meadows.
