One of the leading features of the second World Hobby show, to open in the Coliseum Saturday, will he a dally competition in the national Jet powered model auto derby, sponsored by THE CHI- CAGO TRIBUNE. The north section of the Coliseum will ring with shouts of excitement as thousands of anxious Chlcagoland youngsters speed their model autos' down the 60 foot runway in an attempt to set a new world's record. The present competition record is 137 miles an hour. Some boys, however, have been known to build their own racers of plastic, wood, or metal, and run them at 150 m. p.

h. The cars generally weigh under 4 ounces. Powered By Gas The tiny auto, attached to a wire on the lane, is powered by a 2 inch cartridge of carbon dioxide gas such as is used for self Inflating life belts. The capsule, inserted in the rear of the car, is set off by a small needle-pointed gun. The trigger is pulled.

The capsule is punctured. The air explodesand the auto goes scooting down the speedway! The swiftness of the let car is determined by the skill of its operator and the manner In which it is started. All manufacturers' models on exhibition have been created by boys and girls. Each of the four lanes of the speedway will be equipped with an official, timing device similar to the plectrlc eve used at horse races. William MacMlllan, of Philadelphia, well known for his ex perience with Jet cars in the United States Is in charge of activities.

Show officials and an expert instructor will be on hand to record all scores, Grand Award To Be Given Each evening at 7:30 p. m.
