CLARA. $115,161, of which the government will grant NAVY WILL TRAIN FEWER FLYERS; CASUALTIES LOW Washington, D. June 24 (JP). The navy announced today that unexpectedly low casualties will permit a substantial reduction in the training program for naval pilots. Principal reductions will be made among the thousands of young men enrolled in 11 week pre-fiight courses.

At the end of each course hereafter only about 50 per cent of the students will move on for Clght training. The navy explained that the net effect of the reduction In the training program will be that "the output of naval aviators will gradually be reduced until in about a year this output will be one-third of the present output." Tho navy added that its "Immediate concern" is to offer the rarirts affected by the reduction wide choices of future services, either within the air service as crew men on planes or as seamen on carriers, or by remaining in the college training program V-12 to qualify for commissions in non-aviation branches. Each cadet also will be offered an opportunity to serve in enlisted ranks in non-aviation branches or in some cases to withdraw entirely from the service. WOMEN'S EQUAL PAY LAW TO BE EFFECTIVE JULY 1 Springfield, 111, June 24 (JP). Equal pay for women, one of the most controversial 6t recent legislative issues, enters Illinois statutes July 1 and heads for a predicted Supreme court test of its validity.

Only manufacturing workers, including 300,600 women, are affected by the new law. It will require industrial employers cf six or more persons to pay women wages equal to those paid men performing equal work, with exceptions for seniority, training, skill, ability, bargaining contract, or "any other reasonable" discriminations except difference in sex. Violations are classed as misdemeanors punishable by fines of $25 to $100. Actions must be instituted by complainants within six months after alleged violations. There will be a few changes next month, but nothing drastic," he told a reporter. He did not elaborate, but added that official announcement of July ration point values is scheduled for late next week.

The only meats now rationed are beef steaks and roasts. Tho Bowles did not say so, the changes planned may return point values to some of the more choice cuts of other kinds of meat. OPA has been receiving protests from housewives that there is an acute shortage of better cuts, and some have urged ration resumptions to improve distribution.
