CHICAGO PAILY TRIBUNE: Thursday, April 21, 1949, Page 3 Play Will Aid Japanese Student Cyclists Tested in Safety Lane 20 MAINE STUDENTS TO ATTEND I RL7S CLUB CONFERENCE SATURDAY Twenty Maine Township High school girl! will attend the annual Suburban Girls cluh conference Saturday in Oak Park Township High school. Topics discussed- will Include race prejudice, communism, worldwide relief, world peace, and the school as a practice field for democracy. Seniors attending will be Jane Lawrence, Joan McCabe, Mary Deo Stiefenhoefer, and Carol Tholln. Junior class representatives are Betty Carlson, Nancy Carter; Carol Knudseri, Donna Leggett, Paula Moiiendorf, and Florence Moore. Sophomores named to attend are Norma Davies, Nancy Dobey, Carol Jackson, Joan Morrow, and Polly Remington.

Like many a Japanese he had no way of financing It. But three years ago he met an American GI, a member of the amy occupation forces.

As a result Hara Is close to realizing his dream. In fact if nothing unforseen happens he will arrive on the North Park college carr.rus this summer. For Soto Colovo, 5674 Ridge the GI, didn't forget his Tokyo friend when he returned to the United states and North Park, which he had attended before entering the service. College Offers Scholarship Colovos and Hara corresponded. Hara mentioned that tho he was attending the University of Tokyo he still wanted to study in America.

Then Colovos decided that rer-haps he could help. He began to taJk about his friend and his seemingly hopeless ambition. He mentioned it to the college and to his fellow members of the Tridentians, campus men's organization. Then Colovos was graduated last June and is now attending Drake university, Des Moines, I a. But Hara was not forgotten.

The college came up with a tuition scholarship which is renewable for a second year. The Tridentians lined up jobs in various campus eating places to provide meals and room rent. Hope Musical Solv.es Problem Then all that remained was getting Hara over to this country. Currency may not be taken from japan. Besides, Hara's resources were, limited.

So the Tridentians got busy again. James Eastman, 5219 N. Christiana president, and Michael Grehl, 5510 N. Bernard wrote a musical comedy, "You Never Had It So Good Before," a satire on the army. Other Tridentians learned the roles.

Tonight they will present the show in the college auditorium at 8 o'clock. They hope the proceeds will be sufficient to pay Hara's transportation.
