Others not yet affected have followed suit to try and keep the disease away. The" cleanup targets are weeds, fly and mosquito breeding places, rats and filth. In this polio area, hardest Kit in the state, volunteers using DDT, are spraying an open sewage ditch and many of the city's outdoor toilets and alleys. Many other preventive measures also have been taken. Towns Spraying DDT At least 30 southern Illinois communities have cleaned up and sprayed unsanitary spots with "DDT, or plan such projects.

About 30 central and northern counties have not reported any polio. A newcomer in the cleanup drive is Eldorado.
