The nave of the Fourth Presbyterian church, 126 E. Chestnut which seats 1,500, was nearly filled as the Rev. Elara Davies extolled the late senior member of the law firm of Kirkland, Ellis, Hodson, Chaf-fetz, and Masters. the things that enhance him to us," Dr. Davies said of Mr.

Kirkland. "were his long years of legal service, his high devotion, his concern for others. God created honorable men and he was one. The latter words were in recognition of the many successful court fights in behalf of freedom of the press which Mr.

Kirkland conducted for years as chief counsel for The Chicago Tribune. He won landmark cases, often carry- log them to the United States Supreme court, and news papers have relied upon the decisions ever since. Reads 23d Psalm The brief services opened with prayer. A robed quartet sang "The Lord's Prayer, then Dr. Davies read consoling passages from the scriptures, including the 23d Psalm.

More prayers followed his tribute to the late attorney, then the pastor lead a procession of 12 of Mr. Kirkland's partners thru the center aisle to the front of the church, preceding the coffin. 102 M. P. H. WIND HITS OREGON; KILLS WOMAN Portland, Feb. 5 A gale smashed into Oregon from the Pacific today, tearing down power lines and hurling a woman to her death.

The wind was fiercest at the coastal town of Newport, where a gust reached 102 miles an hour. Portland, however, suffered the most as windows were shattered and 90 per cent of the traffic lights failed. Numerous broadcasting stations were silenced. Mrs. Tom Abraham, 40, was trying to repair a blown-down awning at nearby Oregon City when a gust hit.

It carried her and the awning into the air and dropped her from a height of 10 or 20 feet. She landed on her head and died in a hospital. Today's big blow hit Newport, then slanted inland in a north-easterly direction. The strongest winds sailed on a narrow path that scattered trees all over the town of Dallas before moving toward Portland. M.

I monthly payment plan 25 S. I The body of Eugene F. Stormy McDonald III, 23, heir to a Zenith Radio corporation fortune, was flown to Chicago yesterday. Authorities at Tucson, sought to learn the events surrounding his death, apparently a suicide, Wednesday in his home just outside the city. Visitation will be held here from 4 to 6 p.

m. today and tomorrow in the chapel at 221 E. Erie st, it was announced. The funeral will be private. The body was carried by American Airlines.

Peter Fonda, actor and close. friend of the dead heir, and Mrs. Fonda accom panied it 9 Witnesses Scheduled Norman E. Green, attorney of Pima county, announced nine witnesses have been sub-penaed to appear at an inquest I there Monday. Dr.

Louis Hirsch, coroner's pathologist at Tucson, said tests on McDonald's hands in dicated he fired the .22 caliber, German-make revolver. He said he could have fired the shot, even tho the bullet en tered the back of his head. He reported blood tests showed no evidence McDonald had been drinking or had taken drugs. Investigators said windows and doors of the $50,000 rented home were locked when Mark Lawder, an associate of Mc Donald, and Mrs. Susan Tanner, the dead youth's house keeper, broke into the home and found the body in a hallway, the gun beside it.

McDonald's wrists had been slashed. He apparently had been dead six hours. There was no note. Depressed by Letter Lawder told investigators that a recent letter to McDonald from his divorced wife, the former Virginia Baker, 20, of Omaha, may have depressed him. He quoted McDonald as saying, "I would marry her again if I had the chance." The couple were married Feb.

29, 1964 in Las Vegas, separated shortly afterward, and divorced in June. The divorce was amic able, Mrs. McDonald said, and that he had written her and sent her gifts since. McDonald and his sister, Mrs. Jean Marianne Cantwell, 28, of Rancho Santa Fe, were chief beneficiaries of the estate of their father, Eugene F.

McDonald who headed Zenith Radio corporation for many years before his death in 1958. The trust funds established under his will, along with trusts the elder McDonald established before his death, reportedly provided them with 30 million dollars. The two received income from the estate trusts, and were to receive the principal in stages, all of it by age 40, Four in Family Killed as Ranch Home Burns, Framingham, Feb. 5 (UPD A family of four was killed early today when a wind-whipped fire swept their recently purchased $27,000 wooden ranch home as they slept Firemen recovered the bodies of John Sugarman, 33, his wife, Barbara, 31, and their two daughters, Betsy, 4, and Jill, 17 months.
