NO 4-1617. ft if LOS ANGELES API Edward Cookie Fairchild, musical diredor and conductor whose career spanned 45 years on Eroadvray and in Hollywood, died Thursday in the Motion Picture Hospital. He was 76. Fairchild was musical director-conductor for the Eddie Cantor and Dinah Shore radio shows and for Deanna Dur-bin's movies at Universal Studios.

A concert pianist, he appeared in the Ziegfield Follies and the Earl Carroll Vanities on Broadway in the 1920s. He was one of the first major stars to record piano rolls. HE IS survived by his wife of 43 years, Hortense, and two daughters, Barbara Fairchild Gorsuch and Patricia Fair-child Payer. A memorial service will be held March 1 at Valley Oaks Memorial Park Cemetery in Westlake Village. Interment will be private.
