NICOSIA, Cyprus, May 14 Reuters A Greek Cypriot was shot and killed by British troopsduring a security search today at Polis, 70' miles west of here. An official statement said the Cypriot, Kyriakos Soteriou, broke a security cordon around Polis while the search was in progress and threw stones at the soldiers. Soteriou was challenged three times. When he refused to halt a single shot was fired by a British soldier. In Nicosia a 15 year old Cypriot Greek schoolboy was sentenced to 10 years in prison for carrying a home made bomb in Larnaca on March 14.

Briton Shot in Back Lt. Col. Guy Thompson, 56, a retired British army officer, was shot in the back and battered to death as he took his dog for a walk tonight. He was attacked in a country lane near the house at Boghaz, a coastal village 16 miles north of Fama-gusta, where he settled after serving in World War II. Police said bloodstains at the murder scene indicated Thompson was shot from behind, staggered about lOjards, and was then struck on the head with a sharp instrument.

Thompson was a director of Cyprus Airways. Mourning Strike Ends At'Limassol on Cyprus' southwestern coast, six masked men tonight set fire to the British institute, where night classes in English are held. Limassol authorities said the men bound the Turkish guard, soaked some furniture with gasoline, touched it off, and fled. The guard freed himself and summoned firemen who put out the blaze. Damage was put at about 150.
