We've had fellows before charged with rape, disorderly conduct, and stealing tires off cars, and we have found them to be good workers." A Tribune reporter "Watched Oratowski and eight members of a tree trim-jtning crew loafing last Friday in the 2800 block on North Sawyer avenup. This brought fo light Oratowski's record the police department and the fact that he was sponsored for his tree trimming 'job by City Clerk John C.

Marcin, who is 35th Democratic committeeman. The only disciplinary action taken as a result of The Tribune's account of crew's loafing is that one member was suspended for days for taking time out "to talk to the Tribune Explains Qualifications The man suspended, Stephen Pawlowski of 1326 N. Wicker Park told the reporter no special training was needed for the tree trimming job; that all that was needed was to be a part of the Democratic political organization. Republicans, he observed; not get jobs as tree trimmers. Eugene" Gearon, assistant superintendent of forestry, who announced Pawlowski's suspension, was asked if action was; contemplated against the other crew mem- tfo," Gearon replied.

They were busy as beavers." Mayor Daley said he knew nothing about the case. He ignored a reporter's question to whether he thought Oratowski had the proper character to be a city em- ploye.
