a a a a a a a a a Section1A CHICAGO TRIBUNE, MONDAY, MARCH 17, 1969 GIRL KILLED, 9 OF FAMILY HURT IN WRECK Tire Blowout Blamed as Car Hits Truck An 11-year-old Chicago girl was killed and nine members of her family were injured yesterday when a tire blew out, causing their car to go out of control and hit truck in U. S. highway 66, 15 miles south of Springfield. There were 13 persons in the car. The dead girl was identified by state troopers as Guadalupe Vera, of 833 Newport Troopers said she was thrown from the car and it rolled over her.

Her father, Roberto, 48, the driver of the car, and mother, Mary, 40, were treated for injuries at St. John's hospital, Springfield, and released. List Others Hurt Seven other sons and daughters also were treated and released. They were identified as Delia, 22; Daniel, 20; Josephine, 16; Roberto 10; Ralph Rubin, and Amelia, 1. Nicholas Rimares, 18, also of the Newport avenue address, was treated at the hospital.

A Snyder, couple in the car, identified as relatives of the Veras, also suffered minor injuries. The truck driver, of Jenison, not injured, Troopers said the accident occurred as the car was passing the truck. Mrs. Charlotte Spaeth, 46, of 2236 Cullom was killed last night when the car in which she was riding left the eastbound lanes of the Northwest tollway one-half mile west of the Des Plaines oasis and struck a sign. Her husband, Ernst, 57, the driver, was treated at Lutheran General hospital, Park Ridge, and released.

Dies as Car Hits Wall Mrs. Michelle Preidis, 18, of 2920 Harlem Elmwood Park, was killed early yesterday when her auto rammed into a cement wall at Taylor street and South boulevard. Oak Park Patrolman Walter Woitovich said Mrs. Preidis' car buckled to about half its size when it hit the wall, indicating she may have been going 60 miles an hour or more. She was northbound in Taylor, which ends as a wall of a Chicago and North Western railway station.

Martin F. Hamrock, 31, of 1855 Berenice was killed Saturday when his car went out of control and turned over on U. S. highway 51 a fourth of a mile south of U. S.

highway 33 in Washington county, Wisconsin. Sheriff's police said Hamrock's car apparently slipped off the edge of the road and went out of control as he tried to get back on. Up to midnight Saturday, 107 persons had been killed in traffic accidents in Cook county since Dec. 31. Of those, 60 were in 1 Chicago, where 6,816 persons were injured in the same period.

McFetridge Mass Slated; Labor Leader Mass for William L. McFetridge, 75, national labor leader and president of the Chicago park district board, will be said at -11 a. m. Wednesday in St. Jerome Catholic church, 1709 Lunt av.

Mr. McFetridge was elected park board president in 1967, atter serving on the board since 1944. He died Saturday in Michael Reese hospital, where he had been since Feb. two Chicago unions and the Building Service Employes International union, and national vice president of the AFL-CIO. He had also been a member of the Chicago police board and the board of radio station WCFL.

Joining the labor movement in 1923 as a. member of the Flat Janitors union, he helped found the local chapter of the Building Service Employes International union a year later. He was president of the local chapter until 1948 and was elected president of the Flat Janitors union in 1937. Holds Post Until 1960 In 1940, he was elected international president of the Building Service Employes union, a post he held until 1960. Surviving are his widow, Barbara, and a daughter, Mrs.

Flynn The Rev. Leo J. Flynn, 62, pastor of St. Joan of Arc Catholic church, 9245 Lawndale Skokie, died yesterday in the church rectory at 9248 Lawndale Skokie. Father Flynn was a marine chaplain in World War II and later served parishes in Chicago and La Grange.

He came to the Skokie church in 1954. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Marion Harmon, Mrs. Nell Morkes, and Mrs. Frances Hecter, and a brother, George.

Mary Regal OBITUARIES RIES Mrs. Francis Riley Mass for Mrs. Eleanor Riley, 52, wife of former Assistant State's Atty. Francis X. Riley, will be said at 9:30 a.

m. today in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic church, 5472 Kimbark av. Mrs. Riley died Saturday in Chicago Osteopathic hospital from injuries suffered in a fall Wednesday in her home at 5414 East View park.

Her husband now is a partner and appeals lawyer with Adamowski, Newey, and Riley, 1 N. La Salle st. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John; a daughter, Elizabeth; a brother; and sister. Mrs. Hazel E.

Schnackenberg Services for Mrs. Hazel E. Schnackenberg, 77, widow of Judge Elmer J. Schnackenberg of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals, will be held at 1 p. m.

Wednesday in the chapel at 18230 Dixie Homewood. Mrs. Schnackenberg, who lived at 2051 Hutchison Flossmoor, died Saturday while visiting a son in Granada Hills, Cal. Her husband died Sept. 15 Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.

Jean Cherry; five sons, Elmer, Frank, George, Paul, and Roy. Mrs. Ben Bohac Mass for Mrs. Josephine Bohac, wife of Ben Bohac, honorary chairman of the board of the Talman Federal Savings and Loan association, 5501 S. Kedzie will be said at 11 a.

Lydia Polek; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Harold W. Dunn Mass for Harold W. Dunn, 69, of 126 Third Libertyville, retired personnel and safety director for North Shore Gas company, will be said at 10 a. m.

tomorrow in St. Joseph's Catholic church in Libertyville. He was killed Friday in an auto accident near Pine Mountain, Ga. He worked for the gas company for more than 40 years before retiring in 1965. Surviving is his widow, Kathtwo sons, Frederick and Harold; three grandchildren; a sister; and a brother.

The Rev. Edward M. Dowling The Rev. Edward M. Dowling, 62, pastor emeritus of Mary Seed of Wisdom Catholic church, 1500 S.

Cumberland Park Ridge, died yesterday in Loretto hospital. Father Dowling founded the church in 1956 and was its pastor until last year, when he was named pastor emeritus. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Mary Dowling, and two brothers. Mass will be said at 11 a.

m. Thursday in the church. DRAMA CRITIC JOHN BROWN DIES OF PNEUMONIA New York, March 16 (P)- John Mason Brown, a drama: and literary critic, died today in Roosevelt hospital of pneumonia. He was 68. Brown entered the hospital Dec.

8, suffering from influenza, and remained there until his death. He served as drama critic for the New York Post and the old World-Telegram before becoming a drama critic for Saturday Review in 1944. He became an editor at large for a Saturday Review in 1955, a post he held until his death. Brown was on the Pulitzer prize drama jury for a number of years, but resigned in 1963 when the Pulitzer advisory board refused to honor Edward Albee's "'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" Both Brown and the other juror, the late John W. Gassner, had voted for Albee's play and both resigned when they were overridden.
