Nov. 15 HarnlH A. Stevens, 83, vice president of Harry M. Stevens, ball park and race track caterers, died today in St. Vincent's hos pital after a long illness.

Stevens was one of four brothers who took over the reins of the company founded by their father before tha turn of the century. The late Harry Stevens converted the selling of frankfurters, soda nnn. beer, and peanuts to spectators in stadiums and race tracks into a thriving business. The brothers participated in all Dhases of the catering huK- iness, but Harold Stevens took special interest in serving Ebbets field, home of the Brook lyn Dodgers before the team moved to Los Angeles. The Hialeah and Gulfstream race tracks in Florida also were his particular concern. A friend of well known sports figures, Mr. Stevens had a soft spot for umDires when thev worked Ebbets field, preparing special disnes for them to take the edge off the razzing they would get from the rabid fans.

Fish chowder, which he himself liked to cook, was a favorite. Fed Pancho Villa Before World War Mr. Stevens was in charge of the concession at the race track in Juarez, Mexico. He often recalled how Pancho Villa, the revolutionary, would ride up with his supporters to demand not only steak but horse Born in England, he came to the United States as a youth with his father, the family settling in Niles, 0. The father, a steel puddler and book salesman, hit on the idea of selling score cards to fans at ball games.

After getting the concession in the Tri-State league, he added concessions in Boston, Brooklyn, Pittsburgh, Washington, and Milwaukee. The father then catered the six day bicycle races in Madison Square garden and the Polo grounds, selling sandwiches and lemonade. When he substituted hot dogs, peanuts, and soda pop, his fortune was made. Harry M. Stevens died in 1934, leaving the business to his sons.
