NOTED FOR CLARITY In his opln-ions, Henry sided consistently with convicted defendants if he believed their constitutional rights had been violated through arrest or trial procedures. He researched and wrote the opinion in 1977 that held any interest charges in Tennessee exceeding 10 per cent violated the state's 1870 constitutional ceiling. His wife, the former Marjorle Royster Clark of Uniontown, had been his long-time secretary.

PULASKI, Tenn. AP-Stat Supreme Court Justice Joseph W. Henry, 63, died Monday while Jogging around the Pulaski High School track. Henry, who had served as chief justice, was elected to the Supreme Court in August of 1974 in a Democratic-sponsored reorganization of the high court. His body was spotted by a passerby, who notified authorities.

The judge was pronounced dead at Giles County Hospital. Long active in state Democratic politics, Henry served as Tennessee's adjutant general from 1953 to 1959. BARRY Gen. Cordero, 87, survivor of Bataan march, is dead the 31st Regiment when Japanese invaders defeated American and Filipino forces on the Bataan peninsula in the Philippines In April, 1942, and forced their prisoners on the Infamous death march to prison camps. Cordero was born June 6, 1893, in San Juan, and was graduated from Pennsylvania State University before enlisting in the Army during World War I.

He is survived by his wife, the former Gloria Haydon of Needham, and two children. Services will be held Wednesday In the National Cemetery in Bayamon, west of San Juan. SAN JUAN, P.R. AP-ReUred Brig. Gen.

Virgilio M. Cordero, 87, a survivor of the Bataan Death March in World War II, died Mohday at the Navy Hospital in the Roosevelt Roads Base, a hospital spokesman reported. The spokesman said Cordero, who retired from the Army in 1953 after 36 years of service, suffered from a lung ailment. Cordero was one of Puerto Rico's most decorated soldiers, holding three Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. HE WAS A battalion commander.

Welch, 87, of 375 Sheridan Win-netka. Mr. Welch died Sunday in Evans-ton Hospital. He retired in 1965 as chairman of the board of Sargent-Welch Scientific Skokie, manufacturer of laboratory apparatus. He helped to organize the Future Farmers of America and was a governing member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

He worked as an Athens correspondent for various London dailies before taking the wire service job.
