and a veteran of more than half a century In the tobacco has died at his home. Bantle joined U.S. Tobacco in 1929 as a retail saleasman, and was elected a vice president and director in, 1945. He became director of advertising In 1947 and of sales operations the following year. He served as chairman, president, and chief executive officer from 1959 until his retirement in 1972.

He remained as director emeritus of the company until his death. BANTLE SUPERVISED the relocation of U.S. Tobacco, which sells a number of products including several popular brands of snuff, from New York City to Greenwich, in 1970. He also was credited with engineering the growth of the company, which reported record earnings during his tenure as president. Surviving are Bantle's wife, and a son, Louis F.

Bantle of Darien, currently board chairman and president of. U.S. Tobacco. There are two grandchildren. Funeral services will be private.

HOLLYWOOD (UPI)-WilUam Meiklejohn, 78, the talent scout who brought Ronald Reagan to movie stardom, has died of a heart attack, a family member announced Tuesday.

Meiklejohn had a heart attack April 15 and lapsed into a coma at St. Joseph's in Burbank, where he died Sunday. As a Hollywood casting executive and talent agent for 60 years, Meiklejohn nan-" died such stars as Lucille Ball, Alan Ladd, William Holden, Ray Milland, and Shirley Temple. Mr. Fitzpatrick, of 7013 S. Prairie was fatally shot Sunday night while walking his dog In an alley behind 6912 S. King two blocks from his home. He had gone through the alley, carrying a flashlight, to look for aluminum cans to be recycled, according to his wife, Jimmie.

He carried no identification, and police learned who he was by following his dog, Bosey, after telling the animal, "Go home, boy!"
