WHEELCHAIR RIDERS WIND UP 4100-MILE TREK St. Louis, May 31 (A) Ten crippled students from Southern Illinois university at Carbondale completed a 100-mile "jaunt for jobs" today a wheelchair endurance run to promote employment for the handicapped. "We were going to sell pencils, you know, the old stereotype, said John Taschler, 24, of Madison, Wis. He is president of the Winged Wheels club at the university. The club had 5,000 pencils but the university was shut down because of recent student anti-war protests.

So the students decided on the "jaunt for jobs," to "create public awareness that handicapped persons can perform many tasks." Led by Paralyzed Vet Trip leader was Michael Kaminski, 22, of Middleton, Wis. He is an infantry veteran paralyzed from the waist down by a mortar explosion in Viet Nam. As soon as the group left Carbondale last Tuesday, state police stopped them. A misunderstanding was cleared up when the governor's office confirmed that the club had been given permission to use the highways. The students had a police escort the rest of the way.

"'Some people thought we were protest said Taschler. At one point, said Taschler, a car pulled up and a crippled man tried to say something. But he couldn't. His wife, who was driving, said: "He wants to tell you that he thinks what you are doing is good. He says thanks." Whole Town Turns Out At the halfway mark, Coulterville, "the turned whole out," town said 800 Taschler.

The fire house was emptied of trucks and cots were set up for the students to stay overnight. At Marissa, the students learned that a 10-year-old crippled boy named Johnny wanted to meet them. "They told him he would die before he was 6," Taschler said. The students found Johnny and gave him a club T-shirt. His father let him follow along on the sidewalk for a while.

"We got a bigger thrill than he did," said Taschler. At least six other handicapped persons turned out to meet the students, who kept at least two wheelchairs on the different mode of transportation. But we showed we have the stamina to do a job." road at a time. They had a van to carry those who took breaks. The other students were: Bill Chadwick, 21, McHenry, Alex Wilton, 25, Chesterfield, Alfred Riecken, 20, Evansville, Pat Gibson, 22, St.

Louis; Mike Winters, 19, Ken Barbee, 20, and Herb Hoff23, all of Chicago; and Christine Curtis, 20, of Miami. Tougher Every Day "Getting tougher every day," said Taschler when the students increased their pace from three to four miles an hour. Some were doing 15-mile stretches at a time. "We decided we had to slow this thing down or we would get there too soon," Taschler said. The destination today was home plate at Busch Stadium.

Louis and baseball Los game Angeles between started St. after. the baseball that the students had carried with them was thrown into play by Kaminski. Taschler said he had tried to get a job after earning his bachelor's degree in speech but "it was damned difficult." He is now a graduate student. "We are just as human as anyone else.

He originally had been taken to Morris hospital, Morris. Police said Vilt had been working with cyanide and arsenic gases as part of a chemistry experiment Friday in the school." 'Dashing Dan' Mystery Man Wanted by FBI NEW YORK, May 31 (AM) "Dashing Dan," a short, stocky man in his mid-40s, is careful about his appearance, works regular hours and is good at what he does. He robs banks, says the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The polite robber-who shows tellers a note saying he has a gun- has figured in 19 New York bank robberies since March 4, the FBI said, taking in nearly $34,000 in three months. Identity Remains Mystery Altho his identity remains a mystery, despite pictures by bank security cameras, his are getting unmistakeable, agents said. They said the robber always works alone, never hits the same bank twice and always stages his robberies on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

All of his targets have been branch banks in midtown Manhattan or western Long Island. In every case except one, the FBI said, robber handed a note to the teller warning that he had a gun and demanding only large denomination bills. If the teller hesitated, he would walk away after a polite "excuse me." If she handed 1 over money, he would say, "Thank you," and leave on foot. He has never displayed a weapon, agents said. First Holdup Biggest In his first, and biggest, holdup March 4, the robber was photographed leaving a branch of Chase Manhattan bank in Queens with a pouch containing $4,800, the FBI said.

After a month of inactivity, he struck again in Valley Stream, N. Y. Except for another two-week break in May, he figured in at least one robbery, a week thereafter, and sometimes as many as three in a day, agents said. The FBI said the robber has been turned away by tellers six times, and on 1 each occasion he held up another bank within hours, often only blocks away. STABBED MAN DIES; POLICE SEARCH FOR 2 Tony Servidio, 78, of 2513 Harrison died in University of Illinois hospital yesterday as police continued to search for the two robbers who broke into his home and stabbed him.

Servidio, a retired bicycle dealer, was stabbed early Friday when the men broke into the home thru a rear window and took $200 from Sedvidio and Mrs. Caroline Ballinger, 54, another resident. Police said Servidio was stabbed by a man he had earlier refused admittance to his house. The man had told Servidio and Mrs. Ballinger that somebody was trying to kill him.

Calvary dear nee John, of RestFuneral Dominic A. WORZALA You have six months after the first decision to request a reconsideration. If you still are not satisfied after your claim is reconsidered, you may request a hearing before an examiner. A request for a hearing must be made within six months of the reconsideration. You may at the hearing to appear present evidence, or testimony you may or choose other to not appear and let the examiner review your case on the record.

If the decision of the hearing examiner still is not favorable, additional steps of review are possible thru the appeals council and finally by filing civil action in a United States District court. If you think you are right, don't give up. The avenues of appeal were written into the law to make sure that claimants receive exactly the benefits the law provides.
