"We have come to the point where we can yield no further," the Rev. Joseph Duffey said as he rose and spoke before the convention. Duffey, who heads the state campaign for Sen. Eugene J.

McCarthy's Presidential bid, withdrew his name and those of other McCarthy supporters from the slate of 44 national convention delegates presented to the convention. i-unerai Monday, 9: is a. m. from Pomierski Sons Funeral Home 1059 W. 32d street, to St. John of God sented a Newspaper Award of Merit to the Fond Du Lac Com- mnnwpalth Rpni-irtor- at- co Prime Minister Trudeau deau, 48, the bachelor Liberal leader, faces a French-Canadian beauty as the Conservative opponent for his own seat in Montreal's wealthiest district.

Member of the Bar Huguette Marleau, 38, trying to unseat Trudeau, is a real life Portia, a member of the Montreal bar, and is a sister of Louise Marleau, the actress who is playing Juliette in the production of Romeo and Juliette this season at the Shakespearean theater at Stratford, Ont. Miss Marleau, as the Tory candidate in Mount Royal, can argue with Trudeau on politics or constitutional matters, such as the rights of Quebec in Canadian confederation, and she has also dismissed the alleged power of Trudeau over Canadian women. omen are not marionettes," she has said. "If they like to be charmed, they know the differences between the real thing and the amateur." Liberals Take Seats Liberals won all but one of the federal seats in the Montreal area in the last election in 1965, but Conservatives have built their hopes on strong new candidates this time, in Montreal as well as in other parts of Quebec province. Tories took only 8 out of 75 Quebec seats in 1965, but are talking confidently of winning about 20 in this election, and are predicting that if they win 25 or more Quebec seats, Trudeau will not be able to form a government in Ottawa.

In the Toronto area, known some years ago as Tory Toronto, the Conservatives were wiped out in 1965 by Liberals and a few socialist New Democrats. In this election, however, the Tories are blaming the 1965 debacle on Toronto dislike for John Dief-e baker, of Saskatchewan, former Conservative leader who has been replaced by Robert Stanfield, of Nova Scotia. Has Few Enemies Stanfield lacks the Trudeau personality in election campaigning, but he has few enemies. It is noticeable that Liberal candidates like their names with Trudeau in campaign posters and other publicity, while Tory candidates tend to run on their own names, rather than on Stanfield's coat-tail. The strength of the Conservative party in Toronto, as well as in many parts of Canada, is found in new candidates who have accepted nominations, and who are unusually popular in their home localities.

They are making the national election a series of local, individual battles, while Liberals rely more on Tru-deau's national image as an appealing French Canadian intellectual, with special attraction for mini-skirted girls who throng around him.
