Wellington D. Jones, 71, of Harbert, retired professor of geography at the University of Chicago, died yesterday in Memorial hospital in St. Joseph, Mich. He had been doing work for the state department since his retirement from the university in 1945. A native of Kansas City, Dr.

Jones received his bachelorate of science from the U. of C. in 1908, and his doctorate in philosophy in 1913, after which he spent a year with an Argentine government economic survey of Patagonia. Studied at Heidelberg Thereafter, he studied at the University of Heidelberg, then became a part time instructor at the University of Chicago in 1913. He became an assistant professor in 1916, an associate professor in 1922, and a full professor in 1925.

Dr. Jones was dean of sci- ence in the college of arts, literature, and science from 1918 to 1923 and was associate dean of the college in 1924 and 1925. His special interest was soil geography and classification of the world's agricultural regions, particu larly India and the far east, and he had made field studies in China, Japan, and India. Sponsored Map Collection From Dr. Jones in the early 1930s came the impetus for the University of Chicago's present collection of 170,000 maps and 8.000 aerial photos.

The plans he helped devise call for ar. ultimate collection of 400,000 maps, rivaling the best in the ration. Surviving Dr. Jones are his widow, the former Harriet Agnes Harding, whom he married in 1913, and two sons, Wellington Jr. and Harding.

Funeral services are to be private. WOMAN KILLED BY CITY TRUCK IS IDENTIFIED A woman killed by a city garbage truck Tuesday at Central Park and Milwaukee avs. was identified yesterday as Mrs. Josephine II. Gorlach, 66, Chicago's 1957 Traffic Toll of 2632 N.

Drake av. The truck driver, Henry Stieg, 43, of 4907 N. Mobile has been charged with reckless homicide. Up to midnight Tuesday, 268 persons had been killed by traffic accidents in Cook county since Dec. 31.

Of these, 173 were killed in Chicago, where 19,252 were injured in the same period. BODY REMOVED FROM GRAVE IN BURIAL MIXUP Daniol J. Gallagher, 54, of 2120 Lincoln got back his lot in St. Joseph's cemetery, River Grove, yesterday, but identification of the body which was buried July 12 in the belief it was his remained a mystery. Mrs.

Velma Sausman of 10215 S. Harlem Oak Lawn, who believes the body might be that of her brother. Earl Blackhart, 51, who has been missing since July 8, viewed the body in the cemetery chapel, after its exhumation but could not make a positive identification. The exhumation irom the Gallagher family plot was ordered by Coroner Walter McCarron. Gallagher was in the Bride uiiut I Frank J.

McDprmofr Services for Frank J. Me- Dermott, Democratic precinct captain of the 31st ward, will be held at 9 a. m. Saturday in Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary church, 3647 North av. Mr.

McDer-mott, 65, of 3842 Hirsch died Tuesday in St. Anne's hospital. He was a clerk in the county treasurer's office and previously had been employed in the county recorder of deeds office for 27 years. His widow, Carrie; a brother, and two sisters survive. Charlei H.

Marth Charles H. Marth, 54, of 7128 May executive board member and recording secretary of the Chicago Photo En gravers union, died yesterday in Mercy hospital. Mr. Marth also was a founder and organizer of the Altgeld Improvement association. Surviving are his widow, Liola, and three sons, Charles Richard and Ramon.

Mass will be said at 10 a. m. Saturday in Sacred Heart church, 70th and May sts. Mrs. Nan Allison A rosary service for Mrs.

Nan Allison, 80, mother of Fran Allison of the television show Kukla, Fran, and Ollie, will be said at 7:30 p. m. tonight in the chapel at 25 E. Erie st. She died Tuesday in Michael Reese hospital.

She lived with Miss Allison, who is the wife of Archie Leving-ton, in the Park Dearborn hotel, 1260 N. Dearborn st. A son, Lynn, also survives. Mass and burial will be in Cedar Rapids, la. Charles Warner Funeral servioQs for Charles Y.

Warner, 83, former Chica-goan who died Monday in San Mateo, will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at 3154 N. Clark st. He hajd been a guard at the Har ris Trust Savings bank for 19 years prior to retiring in 1944 and a fire fan at the station al 1052 Waveland av. for 60 years.

Surviving are a son, Richard, and one granddaughter. Peter A. Zelnis Peter A. Zelrys, 85, of 4742 N. Keeler died yesterday in Alexian Brothers hospital.

He was a salesman for Ru-mark, real estate firm at 10 N. Clark st. Survivors include a son, Edward, and two daughters, Anna and Mrs. Rose Behnke. Mass will be Saturday at 9 a.

m. in St. Edward's church, 4350 Sunny-side av. Leonard Wissman Los Angeles, July 24 Special Leonard Wissman, 65, a former Chicago prosecutor, died today in a North Hollywood sanitarium after a lengthy illness. Mr.

Wissman had lived here since 1944, but for 25 years before coming to Los Angeles, he had been a deputy district attorney in Chicago. PROVIDE FUNDS AS MEMORIAL TO DR. STANTON The fiance and the secretary of Dr. Margaret E. Stanton, who was shot to death June 6, are establishing a memorial fund in her name.

Dr. Max P. Forkosh, 4980 Marine said he plans to donate $4,000 in insurance he hopes to receive for Dr. Stanton's missing engagement ring. Mrs.

Guy Schiola, 3657 Ohio her secretary, said she will donate the salary she receives from the doctor's estate. They expect additional funds from the doctor's friends and said the money probably will benefit Forkosh Memorial and Mary Thompson formerly Women's and Children's hospitals. The inquest into Dr. Stanton's death has been continued indefinitely. Bailey Stanton, her former husband and an attorney, is still in Illinois Masonic hospital.

Police contend he killed his ex-wife, then turned the gun on himself. Chicago Girl Drowns in Pool in Minnesota Linda Shortall. 6, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randall Shortall, 1612 Taylor drowned yesterday in the Rochester, municipal swimming pool.

She was the first drown ai xl i Norman Burke, rector of Em manuel Episcopal church in Rockford and one time dean of the northern deanery of the Chicago disocese, will be held at 10 a.m. today in Emmanuel church. Bishop Gerald Francis Burrill of the Epis copal diocese of Chicago will officiate. The Rev. Mr.

Burke died Tuesday. Burial will be in Sycamore, where he began his ministry at St. Peter's church in 1929. He was rector of St. Luke's church in Dixon from 1931 to 1942.

Survivors include his widow, Phyllis, and a son, Norman. Dr. William B. Whitaker Dr. William B.

Whitaker, 82, died yesterday in Veterans Research hospital. He was house physician for more than 50 years at the New Michigan hotel, 2135 S. Michigan where he resided. A graduate of Rush Medical college in 1897, Dr. Whitaker once was on the staff of Mercy hospital, had a private practice, and was house physician at the Drake hotel.

Mass will be said Saturday at 9:30 a. m. in St. John's church, 100 W. 18th st.

George Rolston Funeral services for George R. Rolston, 66, of 817 W. 70th for 30 years a supervisor with the Chicago transit authority and its predecessor, the Chicago Surface Lines, will be held at 2 p. m. tomorrow in the chapel at 7838 Cottage Grove av.

He died Tuesday in Englewood hos pital. Surviving are his widow, Irene; a stepson, Jack Mitchell; two sisters, and a brother. Dr. Theodore Demos Dr. Theodore Demos, 35.

Jecmen Services for Joseph J. Jecmen, 73, of 3730 Grand Brookfield, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel at 3845 Prairie Brookfield. Mr. Jecmen died Tuesday at Antioch, Lake county.

He had operated a hardware store in Brookfield for 46 years. Surviving are his widow, Josephine, and a son, Anton J. The Rev. Michael Jednakowski Funeral services for the Rev. Michael Jednakowski, 48, who died Tuesday in St.

Mary's hospital, will be held Saturday at 9 a. m. in Holy Trinity church, 1912 Taylor where he formerly was an assistant. Recently he had been chaplain at Msgr. James Coyle High school in Taunton, Mass.

Four sisters and two brothers survive. Miss Georgia Lingafelt Miss Georgia Lingafelt, 59, retired owner of a Chicago book shop bearing her name, died yesterday in her Woodstock, N.Y. home. She had been publicity director for Antioch college, Antioch, and in 1928 was associated with the Walden book shop in Chicago. After retiring in 1950, she edited manuscripts for publishers.

Mrs. Allan C. Dewey Mrs. Katharine J. Dewey, 40, of 977 Princeton Highland Park, died yesterday at Wauwatosa, Wis.

OLympic 2-0243. DRUG THERAPY His mother asked that he be sent to jail, so William Mclntyre, 23, of 6233 Vernon yesterday became the first person jailed under the city's switchblade knife ordinance. Judge Joseph A. Power in Narcotics court ordered a 90 day sentence in the Bridewell for Mclntyre, a narcotics addict who had been picked up on a loitering charge. Assistant Corporation Counsel Richard J.

Deutsch said Mclntyre's mother asked that her son be prosecuted on a more serious charge. She said he had returned to drug addiction after his recent discharge from the federal narcotics hospital in Lexington, and she hoped he could break the habit in jail.
