Anne Thomas Dewey, 77, mother of Gov. Thomas E. Dewey of New York, died in her sleep at the Dewey family home here some time during last night She al-ways called Mr. Dtwer her widely known son Tommy. Her physician, Dr.

A. L. Arnold and Coroner William Scarlett said she had died of a heart attack. Her house keeper, Mrs. Pearl Macey, found her dead in bed when she tried to awaken her this morning.

Mrs. Macey said Mrs. Dewey had complained of aches and pains in her chest during the last few days. Yesterday Dr. Arnold took her to Memorial hospital for an electrocardio- graf testthe results of which have not been disclosed.

Governor on Vacation Gov. Dewey was vacationing in Miami when the news reached him. Sherman Welch, a nephew by marriage who lives here, said the governor was greatly shocked." Dewey arranged to fly to Willow Run airport near Detroit, where he was due to arrive late tonight. He was to be driven from there to Owosso. Mrs.

pewey, who had remained Albany, will meet the governor here. Services will be held at 3 p. m. Friday at the Christ Episcopal church, of which the cider Mrs. Dewey had been a member since childhood.

The pastor, the Rev. William Dean Davis, a close friend of the family, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery here. Born in Owosso Mrs. Dewey was a native of Owosso, the daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Alfred T. Thomas, who at one time operated a grocery and dry goods store on W. Main st. here.

She attended local schools and in 1899 was married to George M. Dewey, a clerk in the state auditor general's office. They moved to Lansing, but Mrs. Dewey later returned to her parents' home, and the future New York governor was born in their apartment" over the store in 1S02. He was her only child.

Greer, 24, of 2647 Vermont Blue Island, was injured fatally yesterday when the car Greer was driving missed a curve in highway G6, and struck two trees a mile north of Lincoln, Logan county. Police said the men were en route to Havana on a duck hunting trip and estimated the speed of the car at 70 to 80 miles an hour.

Gustave Ammon, 54, of 583G V. 111th Chicago Ridge, was injured fatally yesterday in an auto at 118th st. and Harvard av. He and Leonard Cycl, 35, of 519 V. 122d were passengers in a cab driven by Lester Klein, 47, of 603 V.

103d st. The cab collided with a car driven by Walter Schemer-diak, 33, of 10944 Wentworth then struck a parked auto. Schemerdiak and Cycl suffered minor injuries. Klein was charged with driving too fast for conditions and Schemerdiak with failure to yield the right of way. Up to midnight Tuesday, 503 persons had been killed in traffic accidents in Cook county since Jan.

Joieph W. Stewart Joseph W. Stewart, 54, of Philadelphia, died yesterday, apparently of a heart ailment, in his Del Prado hotel room. Mr. Stewart, chief mechanical designing engineer for the Cochrane corporation, of Philadelphia, was in Chicago to aid in installing a water treatment plant at Whiting for the Standard Oil company Indiana.
