Shelley, a World War 1 who lost her citizenship for pacifist, after marrying a foreigner and whose cause was taken up authors Sinclair Lewis and H.L. Mencken, has died at the age of 97. Mrs.

Shelley died Saturday night in Post Montgomery Hospital of natural causes. She had been seriously ill since June and entered the hospital last Friday, said John Dowdle, director of Farley-Estes Funeral Home. Mrs. Shelley, author of several books, took a stand as a pacifist that drew national attention in 1922, when she married Felix Rathmer. He had fled his native Germany after being drafted during World War I.

By federal law, a woman who married foreigner lost her citizenship. The law was repealed a month after. her marriage, but this had no effect on her status. SHE APPLIED to regain her citizenship throughout the 1930s but was denied because she refused to swear to bear arms in defense of the United States. Among those coming to her de- W.J.

Mr. McAllen, a Glencoe resident, died Monday in Highland Park Hospital. varied career, he worked as a geologist and as a purchasing agent for an engineering firm as well as a department store buyer and real estate salesman. He graduated from Trier High School in 1930 and received a bachelor's degree in geology from Princeton University in 1934. He worked briefly as a geologist for U.S.

Gypsum Co. and Geophysical Services Inc. before becoming a buyer for Sears in 1938. He spent the next 38 years at Sears, retiring in 1976. Mr.

McAllen then worked as a purchasing agent for Hinde Engineering 654 Deerfield Highland Park, He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Matz; three sons, John, Peter and Robert; a grandson; and a brother. Francis Beidler II; philanthropist, businessman FRANCIS BEIDLER HI, 86, a Lake Forest philanthropist, businessman and heir of a pioneer Chicago lumber magnate, died Tuesday in his home. Mr. Beidler was the grandson of Jacob Beidler, who in 1842 brought lumber in sailing ships from northern Michigan to help build early Chicago. Mr.

When Mr. Factor sued the Daily Mail for libel for accusing him of a third swindle, a judge threw the case out, saying: "Perhaps he objects to being called an arch swindler when he is just a HIS THIRD SCHEME led to prison terms for several of his associates, all of whom said they were dupes of Mr. Factor. He fled to the United States and fought extradition. In 1933, Mr.

Factor said he was kidnaped and held for $70,000 ransom. He was released, he said, blindfolded and handcuffed after 12 days. He said he could not recognize any of his captors, but six months later said Touhy was involved. U.S. Secretary of State Cordell Hull then refused to sign the final extradition saying that Mr.

Factor was needed for the administration's war on gangs. Touhy and several members of his gang were convicted and sent to prison. Touhy, who once escaped, HERR Christ N.
