A native of Budapest, Hungary, lad lived and studied in Berlin for 10 years before coming to the United States in 1933. Katona, who worked at the University of Michigan from 1946 until his retirement in 1972, was professor emeritus of economics and psychology. Cant Rowder died Wednesday in his North Side home. He started on the police force as a patrolman in 1932, assigned to he Maxwell Street Station. In World War II he was one of nine Chicago police efflcers who served as agents in the CoontorinteUigence Corps. As a policeman, he won recognition for tracking down Al Brady, sometimes called the "second Dillinger," and for work on the 1946 Suzanne Degnan murder, for which William Heirens was convicted. He later became commander of the old Hudson Avenue district and then chief of the Loop traffic detail.

He retired in 1971. Surviving are his wife, Diane, and a son, Frank.
