Eileen Farrell Soloist The soloists were Eileen Farrell, soprano, and Desire Ligeti, bass. Miss Farrell, by virtue of her advantage in program material and her remarkable singing talents, can be said to have been the standout of the whole concert.

True, she was not at her best in "Dich, teure Halle," a "Tann-haeuser" excerpt she can sing magnificently but which, as her opening number, this time found her not yet free and true in her vocal production. Her topmost achievement of the evening and Malko's and the orchestra's, too was the Love Death" from "Tristan und Isolde," following that opera's prelude as the usual concert introduction. This was something to hear vastly musical and genuinely dramatic. Given absolute silence an impossibility nowadays on the lake front it have been a performance worth preserving on oft-playing records. Miss Farrell sings later this summer at Ravinia.

Ligeti just plodded thru it. He had more of an advantage when, as Wotan, he joined Miss Farrell in the final scene of Die Walkuere." Still Miss Farrell's performance remained in another, and better, league. Other music on the program was the Overture to "Tannhaeu-ser" and the "Ride of the Valkyries from Die Walkuere." The attendance was estimated at 17,500, a fine turnout considering that Wagner is no pop concert and that many weather weary individuals wouldn't leave home for anything. SENATOR'S WIFE UNHURT IN WILD RIDE AND CRASH Uniontown, June 28 () Mrs. James Kem, wife of the Republican senator from Missouri, escaped injury today as her auto smashed into a stone wall after she turned into a private driveway to end a wild ride down a mountain road.

Mrs. Kem reported the brakes of her auto failed as she was on Summit mountain east of Union-town. The auto picked up momentum but there were no cars immediately ahead. The senator's wife drove nearly two miles before she spotted the driveway. She said she was traveling nearly 60 miles an hour when she made the sharp turn, then hit the wall.

Her car was damaged badly. She was driving alone to her Missouri home. 7c Regular 8.95 value. 20x20 size. Timber tent fo siie) 4x412x12 per Bd.
