FRIEDMAN Louie Friedman, beloved bus- paper Publishers' W-G-N 720 WJJD 1 1 60 A two months drive by County Treasurer John Toman to collect in unpaid real estate taxes on 363 downtown properties has brought payment or arrangements to make payments soon of a total of $3,018,000, nearly one third of the delinquency. This was announced yesterday in a report by Andrew J. Kolar, assistant treasurer, and Albert C. De Witt, special tax consultant, who conducted the drive. Bills Date Back to 1927.

Kolar and De Witt asked owners of the 363 properties to make arrangements to pay their back taxes, some eating to 1927. Owners of 253 parcels cn which $7,797,000 was owing were interviewed. Total cash collections of $225,000 have been made on 50 properties. Tax collection sales, at which owners will bid in their delinquent property, are pending against seven parcels on which $318,700 is owed. sales probably will bring in about $220,000.

Owners of 60 other properties on which $2,412,000 is owed, have agreed to negotiate with the state's attor-rey'a office for tax foreclosure sales. Under this plan the owners agree to bid certain amount at the sale. about 75 per cent of the tax due, in full payment. Court orders account for the rest of the collections. Kolar and De Witt estimated that similar collection drive, extended i'ruout the county, would clear up i ore than 50 million dollars of the I'O million dollar real estate tax de-inqueney.

Tells Assessment rroblem. Kolar said that in the area covered the drive, extending from the Chicago river on the north and west to Lake Michigan on the east and Roosevelt road on the south, about half of the 363 properties present "an insoluble collection problem." In many instances we found that the yearly rentals received by downtown buildings, before Davincr anv fx. hand ot the late Rose, dear father of WIND 560 Max, Dave. Sol. Arthur, and Sarah Omens.
