Kaste, Tribune spot-news photographer into a net held by firefighters during a fire on Armitage Avenue. The picture, capturing the woman in the air, appeared on front pages of newspapers around the country.

One colleague called it "the best news picture in 20 years." He twice won the Tribune's photo of the year contest. On April 25, 1959, he climbed to a fourth-floor fire escape to photograph a State Street Cleanup Day Parade. He fell two floors onto a second-floor ledge, from which he started to fall farther when Chicago American newspaper photographer Frank Berger grabbed and saved him. He suffered a broken pelvis and knee. Survivors include his wife, Jane; a daughter, Barbara Rahm; two sons, Howard and Brad; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Myrhum Funeral Home in West Bend. Services will follow. A resident of West Bend, and formerly of Skokie, he died Sunday in Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Milwaukee. "Being a Tribune photographer is one of the most interesting jobs there is," he said at the time of his retirement.

"You meet such interesting people." He started working for the Tribune as both a reporter and a photographer but quickly realized his love for photography took precedence. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, he had worked for papers in Sioux City, Iowa, and in Waukegan before joining the Tribune. Mr. Kaste was known as a spot-news photographer and in 1949 look a photo of a woman leaping Arts, ballet ally Edward Warburg, 84 New York Times News Service Edward M. M.

Warburg, a philanthropist and benefactor of the arts, died Monday afternoon in a Norwalk, hospital. He was 84 and lived in Wilton, Conn. Mr. Warburg died of heart failure four days after he was admitted to the hospital, said his son, David. In 1933, Mr.

Warburg was a founding father of the American Ballet, which was George Balan-chine's first American company and the precursor of the New York City Ballet. In that era, ballet was nearly unknown in the United States. "No one in their right mind would have gotten involved," Mr. Warburg cheerfully said in an interview in 1984. He was also a founder of the Museum of Modern Art and served on its board of trustees from 1932 to 1958.

In addition, he was a trustee and organizer of the museum's film library. Of Mr. Warburg's pioneer role in ballet and modern art, cultural historian Nicholas Fox Weber wrote in his book "Patron Saints: Five Rebels Who Opened America to a New Art, 1928-1943" that Mr. Warburg "gave the public its first look at one startling art form after another." Teacher and tutor Elizabeth Scarry, 99, a Chicago school teacher and tutor of young children for many years until her retirement in the late Thursdayin Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
