1 WAS RUNNING TO CATCH A TRIM. YOULL FIND MONEY CAI ME I Former State Senator William E. King of Illinois wrote a second letter 3-esterday to Senator Lister Hill ID, Ala. This communication was in corn-merit upon a Washington interview in which the Alabaman said he would rot read an earlier letter addressed him by the Chicago Negro leader, Hill also said he made it a practice nrt to answer letters coming from outside Alabama. King originally was prompted to write Hill because the latter spoke on the radio for the national administration's foreign policy.

King asked wh4T)IPT the four freedoms of the adrnmistration cover Negroes and whether Hill believed in equal rights for all men. May Reath Wastebaskets. In his second letter. King said to Hill: I note with some degree of consternation that you say you limit your correspondence to the narrow confres of a single state. "You were picked tat the Democratic national convention to voice for the first time the proposal that the unwritten law against a third term be flouted and overridden.

-Were 3ou then appealing merely to Alabama" Or were you pleading w-ith the Democratic party of the whole country and. as you did last night in the American Forum of the Air. addressing yourself to the hole nation 7 -Is it your attitude that you. as a senator of the United States, have no I concern with questions that originate outside the state of Alabama? Does your American fag carry only one star7 -Setting aside for a moment. if you please, Om responsibilities of a senator of the United States, do you.

as an American, find it possible to square with the principles of the four freedoms the inhuman treatment of Mims of true American citizens in the south including Alabama? Asks About "Four Freedoms." 'Do you officially, as one of the lawmakers of our country, condone, sanction. and approve ruthless discrimination against Negroes in the army and navy? Or do you maintain that the four freedoms should pre-everywhere in the world'--excert for the Negro7" -May I express the hope that in ruling out all appeals to you except from within your own state, you may not subject yourself too uch to infuences hooded in midrdght secrecy which already have stained the history of Alabama?" I I OBITUARIES SCHOOL SEASON ADDS 866 TO STATE'S PAY ROLLS IN SEPTEMBER U. S. MUST PAY $774,187 FOR THE CURTISS AIRPORT Edward A. Warren.

Edward A. Warren, building contractor and city official of Highland Park for 31 years, died yesterday in a nursing home at 315 Oakwood avenue in the suburb. He was 77 years old. Mr. Warren served several terms as alderman between 1893 and 1911 and from 1911 until 1927 was city clerk.

He was contractor on the Moraine hotel construction job. Surviving are two sons, Harry and Edward and a daughter, Mrs. Bert Brand. Services will be held at 2 p. m.

Monday in the chapel at 27 North Sheridan road, Highland Park. Herbert A. Ehrmann. New York, Oct. 17 A.

Ehrmann, 50 years old, of Bronxville, tax department executive of the Consolidated Edison company of New York and formerly an executive of Midwestern Utility companies, died last night in Doctors' hospital after an illness of several weeks. A native of Chicago, he formerly was treasurer of the Midland United company and the Midland Utilities company. Surviving are Mrs. Ehrmann and two daughters, Mrs. Jay Worsford of New Haven, and Miss Jean Ehrmann.

Original Offer Is Too Low, Says Jury. A jury in the federal court of Judge William J. Campbell yesterday fixed the value of the former Curtiss. Wright airport, Glenview, at $774,187. The jury returned a sealed verdict after deliberating more than 15 hours in the government's condemnation suit.

The 319 acre airport. now known as the United States naval reserve aviation base, is being used for training naval reserve dying officers. Last year the government deposited with the court a check for $577,295 as its offer in the first step to acquire the field. MUSIC SOOTHES MOTHER WHILE CHILD IS BORN (Picture en back page.) A tiny. dark haired young woman lay upon an operating table in lienroti hospit at yest erday.

singing along to a concert of frequency modulated radio music while she was delivered thru a Caesarean section of a five pound son, while under a local anaesthetic. The young mother, who weighs less than 100 pounds, is Mrs. Pauline Siegal, wife of Allen Siegal of 1515 South Kolin avenue. Dr. Edward L.

Cornell performed the operation. using the music to distract the patient's mind. All women should have their babies born to music," said Mrs. Siegal a few minutes after the operation was completed. "The whole thing was a symphony," she said smilingly, "the babythe musiceverything was just wonderful." The baby was born to the melody of Tschaikowsky's "Concerto in Fiat Minor," one of the selections Mrs.

Siegal requested. Ten minutes after the operation was completed Mrs. Siegal was in her room and ready for breakfast. Springfield, Oct. 17 increase of 866 in the number of state employes in compared with 26,060 for Augustwas reported today by the office of State Auditor Arthur C.

Lueder. Salary payments jumped $169,108 to $3,611.624 for the month. Officials in the auditor's office said the pay roll gain was attributable largely to the opening last month of the University of Illinois and the Slate Teachers' colleges. The university pay roll showed 2, 654 employes in September compared with 2,090 in August. That of the department of registration and education, including the five normal colleges, jumped from 1.276 employes in August to 1,576 in September.

The biggest employment drop of any state department or agency was reported by the Illinois public aid commission, whose staff for administration of relief fell from 594 in August to 371 for September. LAMHERT-Agnes Alexandra Lambert. new Walker. of 20 S. Ifth venua, Marwomi.

STUDENT RITES MARK DEATH OF RAVEN SHERMAN Symbolic of the widespread mourning thruout America over the death of Raven Sherman, a platinum blonde, was a simple memorial conducted yesterday on the shores of Lake Michiga n. Miss Sherman, Intimately known and beloved by from 40 to 50 million odd men, young men, women and children. died Thursday in the interior of China. She had bten hurled from a speeding truck by Capt. Judas, a noted ruffian and border scoundrel, and altho two handsome young adventurers, Dude Hennick and Terry Lee, sought manfully to assuage her injuries, she died in their arms.

In so doing, she was one of the few characters in the history of comic strips in America to die, these figments of imagination and facile pens usually being considered deathless. No one in all America ever had believed Milton Caniff, creator of the strip, "Terry and the Pirates," in which she appeared, would let her die. But he did. Local services were conducted by students of Loyola university beside the quiet waters of Lake Michigan. One mourner appeared shrouded in a sheet.

The others merely stood, heads bowed and facing the east, to experience a moment of that eternal quiet to which Raven Sherman has gone. Note to radio listeners: Miss Sher-mans body was buried yesterday, but her spirit and voice stilt appear live days a week over W-G-N at 5:15 p. m. DAY. CRON! WELLRobert.
