He died from complications of pneumonia after a long struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was born January 7, 1939, in Riga, Latvia. Peter graduated with honors from New York University in New York, NY and was a 1966 graduate of Albany Medical College with a degree of Doctor of Medicine. He completed a straight surgical internship at Kings County MedicalCenter, NY.

He completed his surgical residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke Northwestern Memorial and Mount Sinai hospitals in Chicago. He served as a Major in the Army Medical Corp and trained at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX before being stationed at Fort Leonardwood, MO. He spent two years serving as Chief of the Emergency Room before his Honorable Discharge in 1973. He worked asan emergency room physician at many different hospitals throughout Illinois.

He opened an office in Aurora, specializing in family medicine and surgery, and was on the medical staff at Provena Mercy Center and Rush-Copley Medical Center for 25 years. After retiring from his private practice, in early 2000, due to illness, he was elected to the honorary medical staffat both hospitals. In spite of his illness, he was reluctant to close his practice due to his extraordinary love for his many patients. Among other professional organizations, he was a member of the Kane County Medical Society, the American Medical Association and a former member of the American College of Emergency Room Physicians. Peter had a love of classical music and the Opera, a passionfor reading medical journals, history booksand attending medical conventions.

He had a great love for his family and was a real family man. Photography, woodworking, auto mechanics classes and serving as camp doctor for the Boy Scouts of America (Two Rivers Council) in Wisconsin are some of the family activities he enjoyed. Peter was the loving and devoted husband of Jean, nee Simmons, Jansons, for 35 years. He is also survived by their two sons, Peter Gene (Carolyn) Jansons, of Elburn and Christopher Peter (Marissa) Jansons, of Tucson, AZ; his children, William Peter Jansons of Arlington Heights and Dr. Laura Ann Jansons of Morris; one grandson, Maxwell PeterJansons; one brother, Dr.

Uldis (Carol) Jansons of Lakewood, CO; his sister-in-law, Susan(Arthur) McAllister of Andover, MA; his mother-in-law, Marietta Simmons of Chicago and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Voldemars Jansons, M.D. (1995) and Milda Ernestine, nee Dolfijs, Jansons, M.D., D.D.S. (1994) and an infant son.
