John J. Elsen, age 78, a resident of Aurora for two years, formerly of Naperville, IL 19732006, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at his home. He was born Feb. 12, 1930 in Chicago. Beloved husband of Dorothy, nee Joyce, Elsen, whom he married June 26, 1954; loving father of James (Lisa) Elsen, Mark (Molly) Elsen, Robert Elsen and Patricia (Kirk) Peloza; adored grandfather of Colleen, Amy, Megan, Brian, Julie, Scott, Tim, Michael and Matthew; devoted son of the late John Sr.

and Colette Elsen; dear brother of the late Robert (Marie) Elsen, fond uncle of many. John was a member of the Class of 1948 at DeLaSalle High School, Chicago and graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was employed by Montgomery Ward Chicago for many years. John was a member of St.

Allen O.R. Drachman, 92, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on June 25, 2008. He was born March 29, 1916, in Tucson, AZ. He was the son of Tucson pioneer, Harry Arizona Drachman and Florence Drachman. He was a World War II Veteran (Pacific Theater), a civil engineer, a longtime resident of Arlington Heights, IL, and a longtime employee of the U.S.

Gypsum Co. in Chicago. Allen was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Faye. He is survived by his daughter Christina, son David (Didi); grandson Morgan; nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Memory Gardens, 2501E.

Died in his home in Carol Stream, IL on July 4, 2008. Howard was a man who wore many hats, filled many roles and touched an infinite number of lives. From block-ice and ice cream delivery boy, through law school to Wheaton Police, Fire, and Water Commissioner, there was nothing he do.

Howard was captain of the gymnastic team at the University of Wisconsin where he received a Bachelor of Science Cum Laude in Chemical Engineering in 1932. He was initiated into Triangle Fraternity in 1929 and was active in the fraternity, including serving as national president, for many years. Howard graduated from University of Michigan Law School as Juris Doctor in 1935. He was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1936. After more than 50 years, he retired from the practice of patent law in the early nineties.

After marrying Elizabeth Jane Kidder in 1933, Howard built a career, a family and a house on Whitewater Lake that would become a social and educational vortex for years to come. So impacting was his presence in this life that he is listed in Who in America, a publication created in order to permanently record the lives of and women around the globe whose achievements influence the people of today." Howard and his three older brothers roamed their Milwaukee neighborhood as kids and sailed the Caribbean as men. as if he spent his life gathering experiences and passing them along to those who would never dream it was possible to have them. Jeanette Marie Happ, nee Platz 91, entered into eternal life on July 1, 2008. She grew up in Morton Grove, Illinois and is survived by Norbert George Happ, her beloved husband of 69 years. Jeanette attended St. Peters School in Skokie and earned her degree from St. Francis School of Nursing.

Jeanette worked as a nurse and retired to Satellite Beach, Florida and Sapphire Valley, North Carolina. She loved to travel and fish with Norbert, her children, and grandchildren. Jeanette was a Cubs fan who was famous for her catfish chowder, bread pudding, and love of chocolate. Jeanette was president of the 500 Club in Northfield and secretary of the Indian River Power Squadron in Satellite Beach, FL. She volunteered much of her time at St.

Philip the Apostle Church in Northfield. She was active in the Guild in both Northfield and Satellite Beach. Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Mary Flatz and siblings Nicky, Margaret, Pauley, Lucille, Robbie and Jimmy. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth, and her four children Paul (Judith) Happ of Lake Forest; Lois McAvoy of Cumming, GA; Alan (Gina) Happ of Raleigh, NC, and Gary Happ of Chicago. He was a kind, generous, selfless man who loved Chicago. Born in Racine, WI, he graduated from Horlick H.S. in 1962 and served in the Army as an MP from 1964-67, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He worked for from 1962-64 and 1967-74. He and Dick Uyvari, his life-partner of 39 years, moved to Tinley Park in 1970, then Lakeview area in 1971, before settling in Uptown in 1979.

He made life better for all he touched. He and Dick contributed to many GLBT and environmental orgs. and they restored many north side apartment buildings together. He also loved gardening and cooking. Along with Dick, he is survived by his three older sisters, Delores (Philip) Veselik, Mary Ann (Larry) Andersen and Patricia Barth; brothers Michael, Joseph (Kathleen) and Christopher (Shante); sister Mary Therese Carter; a total of 17 nieces and nephews; and Tommy and Murphy, their beloved cats.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Frank La Pat, his mother and stepfather, Victoria and Walter Smolarek and brothers, Robert and Mark. Private services will be held in Racine on July 12. A public memorial will be held on July 26 at Misericordia Heart of Mercy, 6300 N. Ridge Chicago, at noon, followed by a full lunch. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Center on Halsted in Chicago.
