He was born January 26,1922 in Wayne, Illinois to Anna and Harry Carlson. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Evans) whom he wed 57 years ago in Evanston Illinois; one son, Kermit (Caron) Carlson of Batavia; twin daughters Bonnie (John) Higgins and Connie (Kelly) of St.

Charles; sister-in-laws, Merrida Carlson of Maple Park and Anne Evans of Des- Plaines; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Cooper, Carter Higgins, Barbara, Kristin Carlson; four step grandsons Ron (Melanie) Modesto, Bill Modesto, Jon, Douglas Gottschalk, nieces and nephews, MerridaSue (Carlson) Nelson, Kate (Brian) Newkirk, Nancy (Vincent) Johnsen, Betty (Neal) Schindler, James (Stacey) Evans, grand niece and nephews Todd (Amy) Varra, Chad (Jen) Varra, Tyra Nelson (Wade) Chambers and several great nieces and nephews. Arvid grew up in Geneva and graduated from Batavia High in 1940. Arvid, a Theta XI, received a Business Degree from Illinois in 1948. He proudly served as a Captain in the Air Transport Command flying as "1stPilot" of and transporting supplies to the front and returning with injured soldiers.

At a young age, his accordion playing started for family, Vasa gatherings and on many stages in the Fox Valley and Chicago. He played locally as the Rythmn Boys, often on WLS Radio and then nationwide with Major Bowes. While in the Air Corp he played for the USO. His favorite were a series of shows with Rita Heyward. He was the consume musician, entertainer and businessman.

Upon graduation he joined Arthur Anderson then Anning Johnson, then with his brother at Thomas Carlson Implement in Batavia. He then joined General Warehouse and Transportation (Chicago) where he was an active member of the American Warehouse Association and the President of the Illinois Warehouse Association. He retired as President of General Warehouse in 1980. He spent the next 30 years in Marathon Florida fishing as a member of the Marathon Yacht Club on his boat The He summered in Batavia and fished on Burntside Lake, Ely, MN. A memorial Service will be on Friday, December 11, 2009, 10 a.m.

Loretta was born in Chicago, IL on Jan. 24, 1922, the daughter of Ludwig and Josephine (Potempa) Koterski. On July 14, 1946, Loretta married John Frank Czaja in Chicago, IL. Loretta found great joy in making quilts and afghans that she gave to friends and charities. She was also an avid gardener.

Surviving, are her husband, John Czaja, Janesville, WI; son, Steve (Christine) Czaja, Broadview, IL; and two daughters, Sally (Bob Schoenfeld) Czaja, Linden, NJ, and Rita Czaja, Janesville, WI. Stanley L. Jones, noted historian, died Nov. 26, 2009, in Santa Maria, CA. He was 91 years old. Stan was born in Shell Lake, WI, on his dairy farm.

Dr. Jones received his B.S. and M.A. degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Ph.D.

from the University of Urbana. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe, the South Pacific and North Africa. Dr. Jones began his distinguished scholarly career at the University of Illinois, at Navy Pier in Chicago, in 1947.

He was instrumental in the formation of the current University of Illinois, Chicago Circle Campus, where he was a history professor, Chairman of the History Department and served as acting Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His tenure at the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle Campus, ended in 1970. Dr. Jones then became the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro from 1971to 1983. When he retired he returned to Chicago Circle Campus as a Professor Emeritus.

Dr. Jones conducted extensive research on the presidential election of 1896 between William McKinley and William Jennings Bryan, and authored a book entitled "The Presidential Election of 1896," which was published in 1964 by the University of Wisconsin Press. children and grandchildren will always remember his sense of humor, his wit and intellect, his love of books, his "guided" hikes through the woods and along the shorelines of Door County, WI, and his constant support and love. He was pre-deceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Adele Tuman Jones. He is survived by his daughters, Glenna, Peters (Stefan), Maia (Steven) Lewis and Lois Finn; six grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 57 years, Gerda, nee Norling-Christensen; five children, Christi (Charles) Hartigan, Leigh Ann (Charles) Devine, Richard, Jr. (Ruth), Rohn (Susan), and Jeffrey (Diane); ten adoring grandchildren, Kari Devine, Kelli Raines, Krystina Schaefer, Megan Hartigan, Richard Schaefer III, Gigi Schaefer, Cassidy Schaefer, Dylan Schaefer, Michael Schaefer and Katie Schaefer; one great- grandson, Devin Andre Raines; and brother, Raymond, of Sandusky and Marco Island.

Predeceased by a sister, Bernita; and brother, Owen. Richard was the founder of the DG Hardware Stores chain located in Sarasota and the Chicago area. He founded the chain following his retirement from a successful business career. Richard began as a practicing CPA in Chicago. Subsequently, he worked his way up from a finance position to President and CEO of the Chicago-based Tractor Supply Company.

In 1973, he left Tractor Supply to become CEO of Dollar Stores, a Jackson, Mississippi based chain with over 400 retail stores throughout the southeastern United States. In 1976, he was named CEO of Fox Grocery Company, a large food wholesaler operating in the Pittsburgh area. In 1981, Richard resigned his position with Fox and moved to Longboat Key. For the next ten years he was a Mergers Acquisitions consultant in the food industry and directed the reorganization of several troubled companies. He opened his first hardware store in 1981in Sarasota.

Prior to his business career, he was an officer in the United States Air Force reporting to the Pentagon. He joined the Air Force after graduating from The Ohio State University in 1952 with a degree in Business. He earned his CPA following graduate school at Northwestern University. Throughout his life, Richard was active in the Catholic Church donating both time and money to numerous causes supported by his church. He was also generous in his support of charities in the various communities where he lived in ways too numerous to mention.

Sauter was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Tinley Park, IL, and prior to her retirement was a secretary at Standard Supply Company in Chicago, IL. She is survived by two sons, Wayne Sauter of Oswego, IL, and Glenn (Vicki) Sauter of Amboy, IL; three grandchildren, Brett (Heather) Sauter of Villa Park, IL, Dana and Jeffrey Sauter, both of Oswego, IL; and a great-grandson, Gavin Wesley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Wesley Sauter; sister, Vivian Budinger; and daughter-in-law, Janine Sauter. Visitation Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, 3:30 to 8 p.m.
