123456 26 CHICAGO OBITUARIES BONNIE C. BEU, 60 Bonnie C. Beu, 60, a lifelong Elgin resident who was instrumental in the creation of a library at Washington Elementary School there, died of cancer Wednesday, Nov. 27, in her home. Mrs.

Beu was a graduate of Elgin High School and Elgin Community College, where she received an degree in business. She married in 1963 and worked several years as a long-distance operator for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. In the early 1970s, she served as a volunteer at Washington Elementary and helped organize the first was a person who enjoyed what she said her husband, Richard. He said his wife also was an avid reader who liked to read to students. wanted the library to be a fun She retired in 2001.

Other survivors include two sons, Joshua and Jason; a brother, Jerry Boundy; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State Elgin. A service will be held at 1p.m.

Monday in the funeral home. GEORGE M. GRULKE, 76 George M. Grulke, 76, of Arlington Heights, a retired insurance claims adjuster, died Thursday, Nov. 21, after a long illness.

Mr. Grulke was born in Mapleton, and received a bachelor of arts degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, in 1947. He then worked as a claims adjuster for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Milwaukee. Liberty transferred Mr.

Grulke in 1953 to Detroit, where he was a claims manager, and in 1962 to Chicago, where he was promoted to training manager. He left the company in 1966 and continued working as a claims adjuster for several casualty insurance companies in Chicago. Mr. Grulke spent more than 10 years at Shand Morahan Co. Inc.

in Evanston and retired in 1997. In 1971he served as president of the Casualty Adjusters Association of Chicago and he was a former member of the Arlington Heights Plan Commission. was very conscientious in his said his wife of 53 years, Margo.Other survivors include two sons, Lee and James; four brothers, Emil, Robert, Marvin and Stuart; four sisters, Phyllis McCuen, Joanne Hofer, Kathleen Schuman and Cheryl Haapala; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Christ Lutheran Church, 41S.

Rohlwing Palatine. ANNAMAE S. HOFFER, 76 Annamae S. Hoffer, 76, of St. Charles, a church and community volunteer, died of lung cancer Wednesday, Nov.

27, in Rush- Presbyterian-St. Medical Center. Mrs. Hoffer, born in Chicago, was a magna cum laude graduate of Lake Forest College in 1947 and one of 30 national recipients of a scholarship awarded by the Johns Manville Co. for an experimental program to develop women business executives.

During World War II, she volunteered with the USO in Waukegan and belonged to the Lake Forest College Forester Club. She married her late husband, Bill, in 1948, and the couple served on the Purdue University Council.Mrs. Hoffer was active with St. Charles Episcopal Church, serving as lector, lay Eucharistic minister and a soup kitchen volunteer. She had also served as altar guild chairman.

She also waspresident of the Pottawatomie Garden Club. She was the Art Institute of Chicago chairman of the Art Insights Program for the Fox River Valley. Survivors include two sons, Phil and John; two daughters, Peg and Mary Jo; a brother, Leonard; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Deger and Renee Klodzinski; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sun- dayin St.

Charles Episcopal Church, 994 N. 5th St. Charles. Services will be held at 1p.m. Mondayin the church.

STEVEN NAGY 30 Steven Nagy 30, an American Airlines pilot, died lymphoma Sunday, Nov. 24, in his North Side home.Mr. Nagy graduated from Highland Park High School and studied avionics for two yearsat the University of North Dakota. Hetook his first flying lesson at 15, said his wife, Michele. Mr.

Nagy became a professional pilot at age 24 for Skyway Airlines. He was based out of Miami and later Chicago. Mrs. Nagy said for her 30th birthday, her husband flew her best friend in from Louisiana and had her waiting in their house for a surprise party. he did something, he did it to wife said.

Mr. Nagy also was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. In addition to his wife, Mr. Nagy is survived by his sister, Nadine Kohl. A memorial service was held Tuesday.

ALICE NECKER, 81 Alice Necker, 81, a retired film director who worked for WBBM-TV for nearly 20 years, died of chronic liver disease Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Lincoln Park West Care Center. A col- legegraduate from Long Island, Ms. Necker began her career in broadcasting as a secretary at New DuMont Television Network in 1951. Two years later, she got a job as a secretary at WCBS-TV in New York and was appointed the film director in 1955.

As film director, Ms. Necker was responsible for selecting and securing films to show on the station. In 1961, she became film director for the CBS television station in Chicago, WBBM-Ch. 2. Ms.

Necker was one of the first women to hold a management position at a Chicago station, said Ed Spray, the president of Scripps Networks and former program director at WBBM. was very unassuming but very talented and he said. Ms. Necker was responsible for programming Saturday night movie, Best of until she retired in 1985. Ms.

Necker had a CBS film festival named after her that ran for a week in the early 1970s.Ms. Necker served as president of the Chicago chapter of American Women in Radio and Television and the service club, Altrusa. A longtime North Side resident, she was also the first woman lector at Holy Name Cathedral, State and Superior Streets. A memorial service was held. PETER K.

NEVITT, 75 Peter K. Nevitt, 75, aformer Winnetka resident whose financial wizardry helped forge new ways of business equipment leasing and project financing, died of cancer Monday, Nov. 18, in his home in Kentfield, Calif. A business executive and prolific author, Mr. Nevitt wrote books on the complicated ins and outs of equipment leasing and financing business projects that are standards on their subjects, said a longtime friend John D.

Scanlan. Mr. Nevitt, a native of Bradford, was in the Navy in World War II. Here- ceived an undergraduate degree in economics and a law degree from Northwestern University. Afterserving in the Army National Guard, Mr.

Nevitt worked for the IRS in Detroit for 3 1 2 years, acquiring a knowledge of the U.S. tax code that later allowed him to figure out how to save businesses money through creative leasing and financing. After returning to Winnetka and practicing law, Mr. Nevitt worked for 10 years for Greyhound Leasing. He moved to California with his wife, Marjorie, and family in 1967and founded GATX Boothe Leasing with his friend and mentor Pod Boothe.There, he pioneered several types of long-termleas- es.

Mr. Nevitt returned to the Chicago area in 1972, where he founded First Chicago Leasing Corp. He and his familythen settled permanently in the San Francisco area in 1975, where he helpedbuild Bank of leasingcompanyinto one of the largest and headed Mitsui Nevitt Capital Corp. until he retired in 1998.Besides his wife, survivors include five children, Dr. Courtney Nevitt-Silverman and Andrew, Cornelia, Dr.

Ga- brielleand Dr. Adam Nevitt; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Dec. 8 in Ross, Calif. BONOMO, JAMES R.
