She was born in Chicago, IL, on May 3, 1918, the daughter of Fan and Robert Goldstein. She was a graduate of Senn High School and attended Northwestern University. As a child, dance was her life, as she progressed through the ranks of the Merriel Abbott Dancers at the Palmer House, performed on stage and screen, and was "on the road" as one of the "Allen At age 17 she contracted polio, and after a long convalescence, recovered to go on to open School of Dance on northside.

In 1943, she married Dr. Bernard M. Cohen, her lifelong love until his death after 44 years of marriage. During those years she raised two sons Richard C. Cohen of Portland, OR and Donald S.

Cohen of Mercer Island, WA. She was a championship golfer, painted, wrote poetry, played and sang with expertise on both piano and ukelele, was an ardent Cubs fan, and stood on her head in many musical comedy benefit productions. Post-Polio Syndrome took its toll on her physical well-being over the years, but her mind was sharp and her warm and cute personality (all 4 ft. 10 in. of her) charmed and forever touched those around her.

She is survived by her son Dick, and his wife Janie, her son Don, and his wife Barby; grandchildren Amy, Lori, Cassie, Galen, Tommy, and Bernie; great- grandsons, Daniel and Norman J. Halling, a private memorial will be held to honor the life of Glen Halling. Mr. Halling passed away April 26, 2008 surrounded by his family. He was born June 13, 1922 to Emil and Galina Flaten Halling in Superior, Wisconsin. Mr.

Halling was a World War II Veteran serving in Okinawa and the Pacific as a machine gunner with the New York 77th Infantry Division. He met his wife, Bea, at the V.A. Hospital while recovering from injuries sustained in the War. Mr. Halling went on to become a successful commercial artist first employed by the Shriner-Bennet Advertising Agency in Chicago and later opened his own Studio on Michigan Avenue.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bea; three children Sandi (Don) Swanson, Debbie (Rick) Sweeney and Mike Halling; five grandchildren Brian Sweeney, Scott Sweeney, Kate Sweeney-Quinn, Jonas Swanson and Julie Flanagan; and five great- grandchildren, Liam, Lily, Megan and Jack Sweeney and Freya Swanson. He will be remembered for his love and support of his family, his sense of humor, his strenght, dignity and appreciation of "Calvin and Hobbs." Jack was a lifetime Chicagoan and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in the 82nd Airborne. He spent 26 months in Europe during the 2nd war.

Jack contracted polio in 1955 and his career in the auto repair business came to an end. Jack was hospitalized for 9 months and it took nearly five years for him to return to work. In 1960, Jack joined the Skokie Public Works Department and worked proudly for the next 33 years. Jack was a master at his job. During snowstorms and floods, Jack manned the phones at public works.

He helped get the crews to the most troubled parts of town. He never lost his cool and was the guy who would handle the phone when the most frustrated citizens called. Jack started the first handicapped swim program in Chicago in 1957 at the High Ridge YMCA. It blossomed into a program that hundreds of disabled people participated in and felt the freedom of the water. He spent over 25 years with the Conquerors Program.

He was named YMCA Man of the Year with many other honors. He was active in the managment and operation of his condo association following his retirement. Jack once again calmed the nerves and got the job done without ever raising his voice. He was a hero to all who knew him and will be deeply missed by everyone, especially Alyce, his heroine and wife of 61years. love and devotion showed through over 50 years of caring and assisting to his special needs.

She put energy into their relationship. Her love, devotion, caring and personal attention helped Jack to survive and then thrive. He spent 54 years in a wheelchair and never complained. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 11a.m. at the Piser Funeral Chapel, 9200 N.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 1p.m. to 3 p.m. at Geneseo Moose Lodge. Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside inurn- ment services will be held Friday at 1p.m.

Mr. Herold was born June 3, 1930 in Chicago the son of Jacob and Nora, nee Halloran, Herold. He was raised in Chicago and graduated from high school there.

He was a 1952 graduate of St. Ambrose College, Davenport. That same year he was inducted into the Army and served in the Korean War with the 25th Infantry Division. Upon discharge in 1954 he married Margaret A. Welch in Davenport, she preceded him in death.

In 1972, he married Grace Mc Glynn in Bala Cynwyd, PA, and in 1986 married Elaine Broxterman in Galena, IL. After his Army discharge in 1954, he worked in Chicago for two years. In 1956 he joined Bituminous Insurance Company and worked for them in Rock Island, St. Louis, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia before returning to Rock Island in 1974. He retired in 1992 as Senior Vice President after 36 years with the company.

After retirement he worked as a volunteer at Hammond- Henry Hospital in Geneseo. He was a member of Geneseo Moose Lodge 990. Bill enjoyed photography, wood carving, travel, golf and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears Fan. Survivors include his wife Elaine; and children Janet Ludin of Rock Island, Catherine (Scott) Crossland of Brigantine, NJ, Susan (Don) Lathrop of Springfield, OR, William Jr of Moline, IL, Mary (Kevin) Morris of Bennett, IA, Matthew of San Antonio, TX and Sarah (Howard) Bass of Chicago, IL; stepchildren Kathy Dykema; Mike Broxterman and Mary Newmam; fourteen grandchildren; two great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Henry of Pine Island, FL.
