Dempsey Jr. Jack aretired management consultant, died peacefully at his home in Chicago on Oct. 26 after a long battle withcan- cer. He was 72. Dempsey, a native of New York, came to Chicago in 1977 as a senior partner with Booz Hamilton afterthree years in Caracas, Venezuela.

He later went on to work for Ernstand Young and IBM, and started his own company, John Dempsey Associates, Inc. Dempsey graduated from Columbia University in 1954 and he served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1956. Dempsey was always nostalgic aboutNew York, but came to love Chicago and his summer home in Castle Park, MI. Quiet and thoughtful by nature, he was a terrific audience for people with wit and ideas.

He loved books, old movies, cooking and his faithful Cairn Terrier, Bailey. For 23 years, his wife and stepdaughters rarely set foot in the sanctuary ofhis kitchen, he kept them so well fed. Thiswas one of the many ways in which he took care of his family. He is survived by his wife, Patricia MacFarland; his sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and John Carsten; his nieces, Melanie Carsten and Robyn Kane; his great-niece, Audrey Kane; his stepdaughters, Carey Lennox and Margo MacFarland; his grandchildren, Mac Lennox and Alexandra Zaneski; and by loving friends in Chicago and Michigan. And he is survived by Bailey, who keeps looking for him.

A Memorial Mass is scheduled forFriday, Nov. 5 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Michael Church, 1633 N. Cleveland Chicago.

best friend, an East Coast heart surgeon, suggested six years ago that he help found a hospital in their native Philippines, family and friends knew he would agree. He did, helping raise seed money for the construction of Asian Hospital Medical Center in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Philippines, and becoming its medical director and vice president for medical affairs. Dr. Floro, 64, died of a heart at- tackSunday, Sept. 26, in the Ma- kati Medical Center in Makati City, Philippines.

will miss his passion and the way he did whatever job he had. He really put himself into said Dr. Benjamin Zamora, coordinator of medical education for the Society of Philippine Surgeons in America. Dr. Floro was past president of the society and chairman of its annual convention for 14 years.

was a very good and dedicated surgeon who had such said Zamora. He was born in Meycauayan, Philippines, but moved to Manila as a teenager to attend a Catholic high school. He first studied prelaw out of his respect for his father, a lawyer. his heart was in said his wifeDr. Lourdes Dimaano.

The couple met in medical school at the University of Santo Tomas. They married in 1965, the year after their graduation. Dr. Floro then completed a residency in the Philippines before immigrating to the United States in 1967 to become an intern at Cook County Hospital. After he completed his residency in 1971at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, he opened up a practice on the Southwest Side.

During the 1970she served as chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Hospi- tal and the former Englewood Hospital. He joined the Air Force Reserve in the 1980s, said his wife. He was called to active duty in 1991during Operation Desert Storm and served as the chief of general surgery in the 314th Medical Group at the Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas until 1995. After his discharge, he returned to Chicago to become a surgical consultant for Little Company of Mary.

A year or so later his friend and former medical school classmate, Dr. Jorge Garcia, approached him about opening the hospital. Garcia had been performing numerous heart surgeries in Washington on patients who had traveled from the Philippines for the operation. Those patients suggested he consider performing surgery in his native country, which was the genus of Asian Hospital Medical Center. In 2001, Dr.

Floro moved back to the Philippines and became the medical director. Besides his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Rodrigo Jr. and Robert; two daughters, Cristina Floro and Clarissa Rhode; a brother, Joselito Floro; two sisters, Rosario Galang and Carmelita Garcia; and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Nov.
