15, 2006, at the age of 80, in Madison. She grew up in Chicago, IL, one of three children born to parents William and Bessie who emigrated there from Greece. Even though a resident of Madison for a few short months, her love of the area began in the when she married Madison native, Steve Bevan, in New York City. Prior to coming to Madison, Mary lived in Delray Beach, FL, for four years. She is survived by a daughter, Kelly Bevan (Peter) Spirer; and grandchildren Samuel Peter Spirer and Rachel Bevan Spirer of Los Angeles, CA; a brother, Ernest Chiagouris of Valparaiso, IN; friend and caregiver Linda Postell of Madison, FL.

Mary had a deep love for her family, jazz, animals, and was a voracious reader. She was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church in New York City. KINKEL, LINDA Dr. Linda Kinkel, Ph.D., born June 8, 1952, to Chris and Arlene Kinkel in Chicago, Dr. Kinkel passed away on October 16. Inspired by her grandfather, John Rieck, Linda educated herself in the fields of biology and ornithology. Chosen Woman of the Year in 1978 by the Young Women of America Assn.

Linda studied birds around the world, participated in many seagull studies and wrote articles for numerous nature journals. She received her BS from Northern Ill. Univ. in 1976, her MS from NIU in 1979, and then went onto receive her PhD in avian behavioral ecology from NIU in 1988. She was a member of many professional societies, and taught at several colleges and universities.

Linda was also a writer and poet, publishing her first book of poetry, "The World within and around Us," in 2001. Her second book, "A Kaleidoscope is due this year A lone wolf and a fighting spirit were trademark ways. She always questioned the obvious using her intellect and her burning desire for idealistic and peaceful outcomes. Linda was diagnosed with chronic progressive multiple sclerosis in 1993. With help from aunt and uncle, Clarence and Marilyn Schawk; cousins Cathy, David (Teryl) Schawk, Lisa (Scot) Stearnes, and Judy (Bruce) Gallo, Linda was able to reside in her home in Maple Park for the majority of the years she suffered from MS.

She is also survived by her father and mother, Chris and Arlene of Arlington Heights; her sister Nancy (Brad) Gamss of Kildeer; her niece and nephews, Jennifer Hanson, Chris Hanson and Ryan Gamss; and her brother Eric of Palatine.
