Kohlberg, 83, of Northbrook, a longtime movie theater owner, died Saturday in Highland Park Hospital Born in Omaha, Mr. Kohlberg was founder and developer of Kohlberg Theatres Inc.

Mr. Kohlberg got his start in the movie theater business as a general manager with Schoenstadt Theatres in Chicago. The theaters he owned included the Brighton, Hyde Park and the Piccadilly, as well as the Starlight Drive-In in Oak Lawn. Mr. Kohlberg was one of the early operators to popularize the drive-in theater in the 1950s.

Mr. Kohlberg eventually amassed more than 50 drive-in and conventional theaters in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. He also was an originator of the concept of anchoring shopping centers with movie theaters, his family said, pointing to the Studio Theatre on 95th Street in Oak Lawn. At that particular theater, he also pioneered the idea of pairing carnival rides and live entertainment with the drive-in. At the Studio, musicians and other entertainers often were featured before the movies.

Mr. Kohlberg also produced sev-' eral MB" movies, including "2,000 Maniacs," "Blood Feast" and "Color Me Blood Red." He also was noted for featuring horror films in his theaters. In 1944, Mr. Kohlberg also opened the Tower Restaurant at Clavey Road and U.S. Highway 41 in Highland Park.

Two of Mr. Romberg's 10 childrenhis daughter. Poppy Catal-do, and a son, Jeffrey Kohlberg continued in their father's business and operate 53 Drive-In Management which owns Cascade Drive-In in West Chicago and the Des Plaines Theatre. He is survived by seven daughters, Harlyne Blum, Poppy Cataldo, Kathy Kuhn, Wendy Wolf, Laurie Milwid, Roben Kohlberg and Kim Hofstetter; three sons, Dr. Irving, Jeffrey and Darren; three sisters; and 15 grandchildren.

A resident of Evanston, he died Thursday in the Old Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Skokie.

Mr. Lewis, a native of New York, attended the Boston Latin School and Hyde Park High School in Chicago. During World War II, he served as a bombardier-navigator based in Foggia, Italy. After the war, he returned to Task Force, which he chaired, was appointed in 1989 to consider alternatives in selecting a utility to provide electricity in Evanston. "Phil was a very generous humanitarian champion of the disadvantaged, the disenfranchised and the poor," his cousin, Jack Axel-rood, said.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; a daughter, Susan; a stepdaughter, Susan Hirsch; a stepson, Jeffrey Hirsch; two step-grandchildren; and a sister. Services will be held at noon Monday in Piser Weinstein Menorah Chapel, 9200 Skokie Skokie. Chicago and received a bachelor's degree in economics from Roosevelt University. He was offered a fellowship at the London School of Economics but was unable to take it Mr. Lewis became a purchasing agent for the Formfit and in the mid-1950s he started his own firm, which operated as a manufacturer's representative in the textile trade.

He retired in the mid-1980s. He was past president of the North Side Veterans Club and served on the board of the Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights. Bosco, 78, a priest from the Joliet Diocese, died Saturday. Rev. Spring Elmhurst Dorothy L. Klott Dorothy L. Klott 75, of Skokie died Sunday in Rush North Shore Hospital, Skokie. Mrs. Klott was a graduate of Northwestern University, a longtime Chicago school teacher and a two-time president of the Tempie Beth Israel Sisterhood.

A lifelong South Side resident and funeral director for 55 years, Mr. Lynch served as a sales representative for F.H. Hill Co. and Brenner Casket Co. for 30 years.

In his retirement he remained a consultant for Brenner. Mr. Lynch was a 1937 graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science. He is survived by two William and John Lavin; two daughters, Cathy Barry and Norine McEnry; a brother; a sister, and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m.

98th Oak Lawn. Eleanor Vernier Eleanor Vernier, 94, of La Grange, died Thursday in Plymouth Place Nursing Home, La Grange. She was a skilled pianist and an assistant organist and associate pastor. He later served as associate, pastor at St. Donatus in Blue Island.

Rev. Bosco was a former chaplain at St Mary's Hospital in Kankakee for 12 years and was the founder of Shrine and Novena in honor of St Peregrine, the patron saint of cancer victims. He retired from the hospital in the late 1970s. He also was a former pastor of St Dominic's Church in Chicago. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m.

Bertram R. Venard Jr. Bertram R. Venard Jr, 66, a retired real estate broker, died Saturday in Chicago. Mr.

Venard, of Park Ridge, was self-employed as a commercial and residential real estate broker from 1965 to 1990 with Venard Real Estate. Mr. Venard was previously a salesman with Thomas Moulding Brick Co. He was a past vice president of the Park Ridge Jaycees tage, formerly of Berwyn and Clearwater, died Friday in his home. Mr.

Stoddard, who was born in Chicago, was an engineer and inventor with Hotpoint G.E. and was a member of Elfin, the firm's engineering society. He retired in 1962 after more than 40 years, and held about 75 patents on several appliance inventions. He also taught courses in plastics at Northwestern University and was a member emeritus of the American Chemical Society. He was an Army 2nd lieutenant during World War He is survived, by three sons, Edgar William and Robert; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
