Whether Don Lash of Indiana who cracked the world's two mile record with an amazing performance last Saturday will smash any more records in the national intercollegiate depends on whether he runs one race, or two. He is entered in the 1,500 meters 100 yards short of a mile, and the 5,000 meters three and one-eighth miles and may not run Lash is pointing for either the 5,000 or the 10,000 meters in the Olympic games.

Levy Best in Discus. In the field events there is as much class as on the cinders this year. Levy of Stanford is picked to crack the meet record in the discus by ten feet. Carpenter of Southern California can also crack the meet discus record. Terry of Hardin-Simmons college in Texas, who held the American javelin record at 222 feet until last week, will attempt to get it back.

With a whole army of high jumpers who can go well over 6 feet, 5 inches and a half dozen who have bettered 6 feet, 7 inches, almost anything can happen in this event. The jump will be run off Friday afternoon. Meadows and Sefton of Southern California have been flirting with the pole vault world's record of 14 feet 418 inches all season, but neither has quite reached it yet. In the broad jump Jesse Owens may get plenty of trouble from Enlace Peacock of Temple, who is one of the slim list of five men in the whole world who has ever cleared 26 feet. It might have been a beauty contest as well as one of speed and staminathe Guyon purse at Hawthorne.

yesterdayfor as stylish a band of fillies engaged in it as has ever stepped upon the track at Hawthorne. The winner, Cottingham, hailing from the far west and sporting the silks of R. C. Thatcher of Colorado, looked like Miss America in person when she dashed home a head in front of Bamboo, owned by J. H.

Manheimer of Chicago. Bamboo, a daughter of Cherokee-Catherine wasn't hard to look at either. And that third horse. Threadneedle. from the stable of Morris Vehon of Chicago, was just a little better looking than any of the others.

She might have won it all had she not been forced to race wide all the way after getting away a bit slowly. Threadneedle Slow to Start. Threadneedle might have been powdering her nose when the starter yelled go on." At any rate, that lapse of activity cost her the race. She appeared to be pounds the best. There was also a good looker from the First ward in the battle.

Her name is Roguish Girl, very appropri ate indeed for a gal hailing from the famous First ward, where her owner. Aid. Coughlin, presides as sort of potentate. Roguish Girl, after cutting out some of the early pace. fin- ished sixth.

But watch her the next time out. She needed that race. The Guyon was fashioned strictly for 3 year old fillies and was at six furlongs. After the customers sized up one after another of the good looking young ladies of the turf thete came quite a betting plunge. All of the seven starters mustered support, but Threadneedle was the more popular and she went to the post as an extremely short priced favorite.

Cot tingham Pays $21.80. The running of the race found Cottingham vell up all the way. She was ridden ir energetic fashion by Jock' Charley Corbett. In the early stages Roguish Girl and Bamboo outran her. Threadneedle, after her slow getaway, was back next to Bamboo pulled out into what appeared to be a safe lead going into the stretch.

Roguish Girl was all I done and had dropped far back. lingham came up on the outside and dashed into second place. Down the stretch Cottingham and Bamboo fought it out all the way. The latter faltered slightly in the final half dozen strides. which made it possible for Cottingham to race gamely into the lead.

which she held until the finish. Threadneedle, also raring on the outside, closed an enormous gap to be third. Cottingharn reeled off the six furlongs in 1:13 and was a long shot in the betting. paying off at $21.80 for a $2 ticket. Another Mars Victory.

Will they ever stop the victorious march cf the 2 year olds in Mrs. Ethel V. Mars Milky Way stable? This establishment trotted out a first time starter called Jaw Breaker in the juvenile race which opened the program. Mrs. Mars got him for in the sales ring at Saratoga last August after spirited bidding.

A son of Chicle-Baba Kenny, he was heed on Edward R. Bradley's Idle Hour stock farm. So naturally much was expected of Jew Breaker when, he made his hew to the racing customers. He was made the favorite and paid S4.60. Jaw Breaker ran like a $9,500 yearling should run.

ANoodberry made the pace until the field was rounding the last bend and had headed for home. Then Jocky Robertson gave Jaw Breaker his head. The splendid looking brown bay moved into the lead without effort. He bounded on down the stretch and opened up of two lengths and coasted home. Woodberry finished third, surrendering second money to the Shan-don farm's Overplay in the linal strides.

Is he the best 2 year old in your barn?" Trainer McGarvey was asked. S25. COLLEGIATE MEET, Stanford university yesterday entered eight players in the national intercollegiate golf tournament to be held at North Shore next week. This is the largest single entry yet received. The Indians will be led by Don Edwards and Morse Erskine, leading Pacific coast amateurs, who competed in last year's tournament at Washington, D. C.

Michigan, winner of the team title for the last two years, heads the Western conference entries. Northwestern, which placed second to the Wolverines in the Big Ten meet, has entered seven players and holder of third place in the conference meet, is sending five. Northwestern's hopes will center, around Pick Wagner, one of the low shooters in the Big Ten meet. Wagner, whose home is in Wilmette, is one of the leading amateur players in the Chicago district. Other Wildcats entrants are Tom Saielli, Richard Graham, William Kosteleckni James Marek, Keith Jackson and William McKenzie.
