Special. Gov. Philip La Follette already has started out on the practical job of making votes for next year's election, though he has not yet taken the voters into his confidence concerning the office he seeks. His speaking calendar last week was as full as if it were only a few days instead of eighteen months before election. He beg an this week at Stevens Point, spoke at Wisconsin Rapids, fXeillsville, Chippewa Falls, and opened Carson park, the new ball park at Eau Claire.

Next week he will be speaking farther north, around Merrill and Wausau. He may reveal his secret then. With the expectation that. President Roosevelt will support F. Ryan Duffy, Democrat, for reelection to the United States senate in order to avoid DufCy's opposition to the court packing bill, speculation tends more toward La Follette seeking the governorship for an unprecedented fourth term.

Four Serve Three Terms. Philip La Follette, his late father, and Emanuel L. Philipp and John J. Fiaine served three terms as governor, but no one as jet has tried for the fourth. It is now beiieved that La Follette mey undertake the governorship a pa in rather than embarrass the Piesident by running for the senate and forcing a presidential choice between a La Follette and a Demo-ciatic party candidate.

Congressman Gerald J. Boileau of Wausau. Progressive floor leader, was among those mentioned as being willing to make the race for the senate oven if President Roosevelt supports the Democrat. Mayor Daniel Hoan's name also comes further to the fore as likely 1o seek the Farmer-Labor Progressive federation nomination for the senate. Heart has been the outstanding Socialist officeholder and vote getter for twenty-five years, and although not in organized labor has been closely identified with it.

As the labor movement tends more and more to be a political rather than an industrial and economic association, Hoan moves into a better position than most to cash in on his close ticup with labor in Milwaukee for a quarter of a century. Plans made by the University of Chicago for a new hospital for the treatment of contagious diseases are revealed in a bill for instructions filed yesterday in Circuit court by the Northern Trust company.

The new building would adjoin the Billings Memorial hospital. The university in 1926 announced establishment of a trust fund for such a hospital by the will of the late Mrs. Harriet G. Smith. Construction of the hospital, to be known as the Charles Gilman Smith hospital, was 1o be started as soon as the trust fund amounted to $500,000.

Endowment Needed. According to the bill the fund has reached this amount, but additional money will be required for endowment of the hospital and for the woik of combating contagious diseases. The bill seeks authority 1o make use of money from another trust established for treatment of contagious diseases. This trust left by Mrs. Annie W.

Durand and administered by 1he Northern Trust company, was used in 1913 to build a contagious disease hospital at 637 South Wood street. Until 1933 the Durand hospital was ivirs. tearan. M. Xielsen, and John H.
