Though Eddie Cantor's little heckler, Saymore Saymore, told him Wednesday evening on his first broadcast of the season that it was his puss that is holding back tele-Vision, many listeners must have felt that a peep into the studio would liave helped to explain what all the vhooping and hilarity was about.

A sketch revolving about Jimmy Wallingford and his new baby would have been lots funnier if one could have looked in on the studio antics rather than mere hear Eddie talk ebout three cornered pants. In short, the Cantor show is just what it has always been great entertainment for the friends of the sponsor who have studio tickets, but is something less satisfactory to the radio audiences. Its form is just about the same as last year except that, now that Deanna Durbin has become famous because of her picture success, Bobby Breen has been dropped. The new Kostelanetz series, excellent as it was all summer, has been Improved by the addition of distin. guished guest singers and the wit of Deems Taylor.

John Charles Thomas, as the first visiting performer, demonstrated once again that there are no better singers anywhere than he. Eddy Duchin pushed off Wednesday on a new series, sponsored by a toiletries maker, with a half hour of polished dance music. W-G-N followers are so accustomed to hearing the best in dance music every evening that one more early evening sponsored dance spot is not much to get excited about. Warned by his physicians that a nervous breakdown is impending, Little Jackie Heller is giving up his radio and night club work, going to visit his mother in Pittsburgh, and then taking a month's rest in Bermuda. Marion Jordan, Molly of Fibber McGee and Molly, did her turn at the microphone Monday from a wheel chair.

She has not been well all summer and her physician has ordered personal appearances canceled for some time to come. Latest report of the leading listener survey shows the Bergen-Fields-Eddy-Lamour show an easy favorite over all others, Maj. Bowes in second place, and Rudy Vallee third. Then come Burns and Allen and Fibber McGee and Molly. Smiling Ed McConnell expects to be back on his program at 4:30 o'clock next Sunday.

He's pretty well recovered from his injuries and illness. J-re Dumond, who has been pinch-hitting for him, is laid up with laryngitis. It's reported that George Halas is looking around for a new broadcaster for the Chicago Bears football airings. W-G-N this year will not serve as an outlet for these broadcasts because of several sponsored programs coming in over Mutual during the Sunday afternoon hours. These include a new Irene Wicker Singing Lady series, another featuring George Jessel and Constance Talmadge, and one or two yet to be settled.
