Two years later it was acquired by the Pioneer Publishing company. He was a former president of the Illinois Press association, and of the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Nellie E. Udell; three daughters, Mrs. Bttty Anderson, Mrs. Phyllis McMillan, and Mrs.

Jacqueline vanderlip; two sons, N. Lee Udell, public relations director for the Chicago National bank, and John Paul Udell; a sister, Mrs. RuUi Cope, and a brother, B. B. Udell.

MRS. MARY MALTMAN BASS Services for Mrs. Mary Maltman Bass, 78, a resident of Evanston for 50 years, will be held at 2:30 p. m. Monday in the chapel at 1567 Maple in Evanston.

Mrs. Bass died Friday in her home at 1027 Grove Evanston. She was the widow of Perkins Burn-ham Bass, a Chicago real estate man, who died In 1936. Mrs. Bass was a past president of the women's board of the Presbyterian hospital, and was a former secretary of "the executive board of the Evanston hospital.

Surviving are a son, Perkins B. Bass and two daughters, Mrs. Avriett A. McLean and Mrs. Frank E.

BLUE CROSS HOSPITAL PLAN NOW PROTECTS I.562.U79 IN CITY An additional 96,644 persons enrolled in the nonprofit Blue Cross hospital insurance plan in Chicago in 1948, bringing the city's enrollments to 1,562,479, while 3,686,879 joined thruout the country, bringing the national total to 32.997,161.

This was announced yesterday by the American Hospital associa-; tion's Blue Cross commission, which added that 21 per cent of all the people in both the United States and Canada now are covered. Enrolments in other leading cities and in Toronto, at the end of 1948 were as follows: New York, Detroit, Toronto, 1.239,413; Newark, N. 1,297,589: Los Angeles, Pittsburgh. 1,298,560 New Haven, 852,905: Philadelphia, St. Louis, 877.099.

Rogers, 79, dean emeritus of the Illinois Institute of Technology, and for more than half a century a teacher of electric engineering, will be, held in the chapel at 720 Lake Oak Park, at 3:30 p. m. Mr. Rogers, who lived: at 320 Wisconsin av Oak died Friday. Mr. Rogers joined the old Lewis'-institute in 1896, and in more than 40 years there served as dean of engineering, co-director, and professor of electrical engineer-1 ing. After the institute's merger with the Illinois institute, he served as director of its war training program, and retired at the end of the war as dean emeritus.

Mr. Rogers was a member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, the Chicago Engineers club, the American Association for tne Advancement of Science and the Western Society of Engineers.
