Distribution of nearly 5500,000 to eight cousins of Albert Welge, eccentric and mysterious miser who died June 16, 1936, was begun yesterday after Judge John F. O'Connell of the Probate court approved a final ac counting of the estate. The account, presented by Eckert Peterson, lawyers for the Harris Trust and Savings bank, as executor, showed an estate of $685,802. This was subject to administration expenses and such taxes as $85,311 for a federal inheritance excise, $37,500 for the state, and $45,541 for personal property, real estate, and unpaid in come taxes. This left a net estate ot $466,864, including $232,372 in cash, which was divided evenly among the cousins.

Alone 4 Story Building. Welge was a hermit. He lived alone two rooms of a four story building he owned at 1501 North Clark street, it was not until his will was filed twc months after his death that rela tives and friends realized he was wealthy. Then they learned why he kept his building untenanted. Stuffed into neat stacks of newspapers which filled the apartment were bundles of currency, amounting to $67,255.

The rest of his fortune was found in safety deposit boxes and bank ac counts. The source of his money is not definitly known. Some friends and relatives believe it came from prudent investment of profits he made in milk delivery and insurance businesses. Welge's estranged wife, the former Elizabeth Britten, committed suicide in 1930. She was a daughter ol the late Peter Britten, wealthy commission merchant, and a cousin of former Congressman Fred A.

Britten. The cousins who will share Welge's estate are George Heinze, Louis Nolt-ing of 801 North Marion street, Oak Park; Louise Heinze Matthews of Ravenna, Elizabeth Welge, Dora Peterson, Fred Welge, Elizabeth Heide Press of 6346 Glenwood avenue, and Herman Heide of 4031 North Paulina street. Mrs. Holt Leaves $470,350. An inheritance tax return, filed in the Lake county court, disclosed that Mrs.

Camilla McPherson Holt, widow cf Attorney Charles S. Holt, church left a $470,350 estate. Federal and state taxes amount to $71,968. Mrs. Holt, who died April 26 in her home at 1296 North Green Bay road, Lake Forest, willed her estate to relatives.

GREAT CHICAGOANS An outdoor hall of fame in Grant park was proposed yesterday by How ard Brodman, superintendent of the city bureau of streets, for persons or events oi msioncai importance to Chicago.

He suggested that stone benches with memorial bronze plaques be placed in the park. The plaques, centrally located, would provide an index to points of historical interest in Chicago," Brod man said. "Previously we have hon ored great men or events by nam- ing Streets, parKS, or DUllding Statues after them. In later generations few persons realize the significance of those names. Last year the Chicago Charter Jubilee association placed more than 100 plaques at places of historical interest and importance.
