at 3246 W. Jaok.cn-b!vd to Oar XfoZ Anthony H. G. rekkrr, lives. This was announced tonight by Carter Tiffany, a close friend cl the airplane designer and builder.

Fokker's wife died in 1929 and they had no children. Dr. Robert M. Cushing, Fokker's physician, said that the airplane designer, who had been ill three weeks, failed to respond to five blood transfusions and ail known methods of combating the disease and during the night he sank into a coma and died. Disciple of rnorthodox.

Fokker was a disciple of the tin-firthodox. He directed vast enterprises tvith a sharp and frequently sarcastic tongue. Often he refused to keep appointments, and when he did he v.as always late. Ealanced against these qualities was an impulsive generosity which once led him to clear off the toy counter of a New York store at Christmas time by handing out presents as fast as an admiring group of urchins rould grab them while clerks tried to keep track of the prices. Speed was his fetish.

He owned fleets of airplanes, motor boats and automobiles. His office was in his hat. Fokker drew on a scratch pad the initial designs for the airplanes which the army airmen, Maitland and He-tenberger, flew from the American mainland to Hawaii; which Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd flew across the Atlantic in 1927; and which Amelia Earhart rode in as a passenger in her Atlantic crossing in 1928. Made Thousands of Planes.

Most of the many thousands of airplanes which Fokker manufactured during his lifetime were designed with that uncannily accurate rule of thumb which he developed at the tge of 10. On one occasion his engineers were having trouble with the performance of a new plane. Disgusted, Fokker climbed into the cockpit and went aloft. "Take 96 square inches off the rudder," he ordered curtly when he landed. It worked.

Known as the "flying Dutchman," Fokker was born in Java, April 6, 1890, the son of a wealthy coffee planter. At an early age he was taken to the Netherlands, where his father, retired from business, hoped force were astonished last night by messages that came in over their as Train and Auto Collide njwa cnurcn sural calvary.
