Communist forces are only 30 miles away and moved against Foochow in force nine days ago. The city is jammed, hotel space is at a premium, and the heavily stocked stores spill their wares out over the sidewalks. But around those sidewalks also sit refugees from Red conquered territory now turned beggars.

Along the city's narrow streets march streams of machine gun squads with uniformed coolies, bringing along the ammunition. 140NDAT DAHLSESC-Swan, 3 p.ta.f at chapeL JOHNSON-Ernest 1 p.m., at chapel. THOMPSON (Chicago Tribune Press Service) Camp Atterbury, July 24 For the first time since the 437ta troop carrier wing of the air force reserve from Chicago was organized after the war, its 046.pl anes will make an actual drop of paratroopers Tuesday morning. Flying from this air force base, reopened for summer training of the air force reserve, nine planes from the Chicago wing will pick up a load of 150 troopers from the 8 2d airborne division and dump them out at 1,000 feet on a drop zone at Camp Campbell, where the division is in training. Emphasis On Combat Training This is the first time that the training of a regular army division and troop carrier planes of the air force reserve has been integrated. A week ago the 434th Indiana troop carrier wing became the first to -inaugurate such training by a para-troop drop at Campbell.

All of this stems from the new army air force policy of giving the civilian components more actual combat training during the summer months. The air force is in the process of equipping all of its reserve troop carrier wings with C-46 and C-47 planes, the fat bellied two engine workhorses of the air from World War LL which flew the paratroopers in combat and hauled gasoline and other vital cargo. Most From Chicago The 437th T. C. wing is commanded by Brig.

Gen. Jock Hene-bry of Chicago. Most of the 306 officers and 96 enlisted men of the wing who came here a week ago are from the Chicago area while others live in cities scattered from Rockford, 111. to Milwaukee. This is also the first time that the air force reserve has integrated Negro officers and men of troop carriers in actual combat training.

Recently Defense "Secretary Johnson ordered the army air force to speed up their racial integration programs. covered water buckets, and sacks of rice; some lounging infantry equipped with either Garand or some other type of automatic rifle, and engineer detachments.
