BIG DOG LEADS ITS OWNER TO QUICK DEATH Tragedy in Rail Rescue Attempt (Picture on back page) James De Michele, 65, who seldom missed a daily stroll with his dog in eight years, was killed yesterday when he apparently attempted to maneuver his inseparable companion from the path of a railway train. De Michele, who with his wife, Hannah, lived and ran a clothing store at 2372 N. Neva was struck by a Milwaukee road train at the Neva intersection a quarter of a block from his home.

The Police Theory Police theorized that the unleashed dog may have darted onto the tracks and that De Michele followed in a brave try to push the dog to safety. The dog also was killed. De Michele was a familiar figure in his northwest side neighborhood as he and Topper, a handsome 170 pound Great Dane, walked the streets on daily strolls. "They never missed a day," said George Harmon, a salesman for Pioneer Auto Wreckers, which is located near the De Michele home and store. A Real Big Dog "Jim was only about 5 feet 2, and the dog seemed almost as big as him," said Harmon.

"I used to watch for them to pass my shop every day." Neighbors said the dog was well trained and devoted to De Michele. On a walk when his master paused, the dog' would quietly sit and wait. Police said the the Neva intersection is without a guard arm at the pedestrian crosswalk over the tracks. However, it has a vehicle crossing rail. She was the widow of Frank president of a liquor distilling company, who died in 1959. Surviving is a brother, Philip Walsh. GLIMCO BLASTS DALEY STRIKE INTERFERENCE Joseph Joey Glimco, whose taxicab drivers teamster local 777 was replaced as bargaining agent for Chicago's 6,000 taxi drivers last year in a National Labor Relations board election, criticized Mayor Daley last night for what he called "interference" in a taxi strike. Glimco, speaking before 1,200 at a meeting in his local's headquarters at 1213 Blue Island said the mayor's "interference" as a mediator in last year's cab strike was dictated by Atty. Gen.

Robert Kennedy. He said that without Daley's influence, Dominic Abata, president of local 777, Democratic Union Organizing committee, would not have won a contract with Yellow and Checker cab companies and have unseated Glimco's union. The former teamster boss said Abata won a "sweetheart" contract which had few real benefits for taxi drivers. Movie Censor Board for Evanston Studied The administration committee of the Evanston city council last night considered an ordinance to create a motion picture censor board. No action was taken.

The ordinance would authorize appointment of a motion picture consultant by the city manager and a motion picture appeal board of seven citizens.
