PLAN SERVICES OF PALOS PARK PLANE VICTIM Funeral services were being completed yesterday for John Apel 19, of 8410 Paloma Palos Park, one of four young men killed Thursday night when their private plane hit the side of Mount Wachusett in Massachusetts. Apel was a June graduate of the Carl Sandburg High school near Orland.Park. His father is the owner of a sewer contracting company in Orland Park. The others killed in the crash were Alfred Pitt, 19, of Staten Island, N. Glenn Bridgman, 18, of Blackstone, and Henry Katz, 18, of Worchester, Mass.

The four, all students at an air college at St Louis uni versity, had taken off from the Worcester airport and had planned to go to Boston. Laborer Found Dead in His Car in Garage Joseph Akelaitis, 50, of 7234 Christiana a laborer, was found dead, apparently of car bon monoxide poisoning, yester day, in his car parked in the garage of his home. His wife, Magdalene, 45, told police her husband went to sleep in the car after a quarrel and that she found him slumped over the wheel later. Drinking of liquor is "a de cision for the moral man," Methodists will be told at serv ices in their churches tomor row marking Commitment day. Tne day is observed ly to provide an opportunity for Methodists to make or renew their decisions about drinking alcoholic beverages.

In its annual message for the occasion the Methodist board of Christian social concerns urges individuals to decide to abstain. The message asserts that drinking "leads to suffering" and is "tne cultural carrier of the disease of alcoholism." Shalom, an organization of Jewish victims of naziism, will conduct a symposium at 8:30 p. m. today in Bernard Hor-wich center, 3003 Touhy on "Eichman in Jerusalem," a book by Hannah Arendt. Among the participants will be Jack Fishbein, editor of the "Chicago Sentinel," a weekly newspaper; Rabbi David Grao-bart, presiding rabbi of the Beth Din, religious court of the Chicago Rabbinical council; and Robert Gale, a publicist, who will be moderator.

TVloore Services for Francis S. Moore, 85, of 6200 Kenmore will be held at 2 p. m. Monday in Sauganash Community church, 4541 Peterson where he had been the organist before retir ing about a year ago. Mr.

Moore died Thursday Illinois Ma sonic hospital. He was organist for the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago for 31 years and the First Methodist Church of Oak Park for 26 years. Surviving is his widow, Laura P. 7243. Stewart av.

Jones' ear the northbound swerved from lanes into the path of Mrs. Wright's car. Mrs. Wright and Jones suffered injuries. Jones was arrested for driv ing too fast for conditions, neg ligent driving, changing lanes, driving left of the center line, and driving with no driver's license.

He is to appear Jan. 15 in Traffic court Mother of Two Killed Mrs. Carol Nebe, 22, of 9850 88th Palos Hills, was killed last night when her car slammed into a ditch at the end of a dead-end street in Palos Hills. Police said Mrs. Nebe was traveling westbound in 103d street at about 80 m.

FORMERLY OF U.S. STEEL, DIES Arthur C. Wilby, 78, of 2648 Central Flossmoor, retired vice president of the United States Steel corporation, died last night in Ingalls Memoria hospital, Harvey Mr. Wilby joined the corpora tioo's Universal Atlas cement division in 1909 as a salesman and became assistant to the president of the division in 1917. He became Chicago district manager of public relations for United States Steel in 1938 and vice president in 1946.

He was a former director of the Chicago Association of Com merce and Industry, and the Illinois Manufacturers asso ciation, and a vice president and director of the Civic federa tion and Junior Achievement Surviving are- his widow, Mabel; and a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Smith of Poughkeepsie, N. Y. MASS TO MARK ANNIVERSARY OF SCHOOL FIRE A memorial mass will be cel ebrated tomorrow in Our Lady of Angels church, 3808 Iowa st. for those who lost their lives in the Our Lady of Angels school fire.

Tomorrow will be the fifth anniversary of that tragedy. m. Engineer Estimates Speed at 80 M. P.H. A Chicago truck driver was killed yesterday when he ap parently tried to beat a train to a crossing, police said. He was Joseph E.

Shallow of Milwaukee, engineer of the Milwaukee Road passenger train that hit the truck, estimated the train speed at 80 miles per hour. Police said the crossing has warning lights. Thruout the nation traffic deaths totaled 249 persons up to 3 a. m. today. Two persons died yesterday in the Chicago area of injuries suffered before the Thanksgiving holidays began. They were Albert D.

Second Sailor Dies Olien was the second sailor to die of injuries suffered early Wednesday when the car they were riding in, driven by Jiatmy Cochran, 21, of Rive -dale, also a gunner's mate 3d class at the school, struck a railroad bridge pillar in North Chicago. The other passenger was Ted F. Cline of Wayne, W.

a gunner's mate 2d class. Cochran, who is being treated for injuries, has been charged by North Chicago police with reckless homicide, speeding, and reckless driving. The present session ends next Wednesday.

The first session was held last year. Six American prelates were among 43 elected today bv the 2,227 council fathers as additional members of commissions which will carrv on council work during the recess. Elect Rockford Bishop Bishop Gerald McDevitt aux iliary of Philadelphia, was elected to the commission on reli gion. He received 1,543 votes which put him at the top of tne candidates for this body. Bishop John Comber, supe rior-general of the American Foreign Mission society Mary-knoll, was elected with 1,063 votes to the commission on mis sions.

Bishop Loras Lane of Rockford, was named to the commission on seminaries with 1,581 votes. Bishop Ernest Primeau of Manchester, N. a native of Chicago, was chosen as member of the secretariat for the promotion of Christian unity, together with B'ishop Charles Helmsing of Kansas City, Mo. They received 1,127 and 1,406 votes respectively. Ex-Chicago House Rector Before being appointed a bishop in 1960, Primeau was for several years rector of the college of St.

Mary of the Lake in Rome. The college takes post graduate students from the diocese of Chicago and is generally known as Chicago house. The sixth American bishop elected was Bishop Alan Bab-cock of Grand Rapids. He won a place on the commission for the lay apostolate. Twenty-nine countries were represented among the newly elected members.
